It's a weird one.  I can call the company successfully from the gf's Skinny mobile but when I try from my Voda mobile all I hear is this terrible tune - http://vocaroo.com/i/s1mUm5fhoeBm
There's no ring tone at all, it just launches into that 80s gameboy sounding tune.

I can dial other Perth numbers just fine.

I've rung the 777 technical support and they get the same tune from their landline and mobile.  A ticket has been raised.

Unfortunately I went naked vdsl last month so don't have the Telecom landline to try from :o

At the moment I'm getting the office in Sydney to patch me through as it works fine for them (and I suspect the rest of the world).  The company in question is a decently sized healthcare org and they haven't heard of any issues except mine.

I don't know if publishing the number for others to try is a great idea so if you do want to give it a go I'll happily message it.

I've got a 2degrees connection with an 021 number, so if you want to message me the number I can give it a go and tell you if it works or not, might help prove the fault.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Yes, happens from other Vodafone mobiles and the Vodafone helpdesk landline.  It could definitely be something on their end although it seems unlikely given the nature of the business.

That's a great idea, thanks.  If you get a normal ring tone then you can hang up immediately as the call is fine.

I'd love to know if that tune is in fact from a game.  It sounds like I should know it and its annoying me :D

Super Mario Bros World 1-1.
I'll give the number a call after my meeting this morning.

Yep, I'm getting the tune from my phone (2degrees with an 021 number). Might just be an odd PBX issue on their end, because I don't think it's Vodafone's fault.

Thanks for that.  I might just pop out and get a 2D sim to test with before letting them know.

I think your call took a wrong turn in the Internet tubes and ended up exiting through a Super Mario pipe. Cool.

And apparently this was pretty much it :D

Turns out the problem wasn't just happening for the number I was trying to call.

Vodafone found the issue was some routing by an upstream carrier and hassled them until they fixed it.

Thanks Vodafone, the mystery of the Super Mario is closed.
