Hi, I'm new here to the Geekzone forum, and looking for some help with my Vodafone Fibre installation.

I'm confused about the process and am getting mixed messages from the Vodafone Fibre installation call centre team.

I own an apartment which is already wired, internally, for Fibre. It is a relatively new apartment.
Apparently, Fibre TO the building is scheduled to be connected sometime this week (23 Feb - 1 March). I am told that CableNet are the company completing this work.

Vodafone have been telling me, since 9 Feb, that Chorus are awaiting consent from the Body Corporate to do the installation, and when I told the Vodafone call centre about CableNet today, they told me that this was part of the problem. They said that Chorus are their preferred (and only) installer, and that, once CableNet are done, consent would need to be granted by the Body Corporate for Chorus to lay a separate Fibre cable.
After further prompting, the message from the Vodafone staff changed to saying that once CableNet connect the building to the Fibre network, all I need is for Chorus to come into my apartment and complete the installation, for which no Body Corporate consent is needed.

Can someone please tell me which version is correct?
When CableNet complete the conenction to the building, and the building is already pre-wired for Fibre, are Vodafone able to provide me with Fibre over those cables?

CableNet are a Chorus subcontracter who do install work. Sounds like your apartment building isn't yet ready for UFB, but once they've been and done their work it possibly will be.

The only point of contact for you is Vodafone not chorus or their sub contractors.

The basic process goes something like this:

End User ---> ISP (Vodafone) ---> Chorus ---> Subcontractors (Cablenet, Downer, Visonstream etc) ---> Their Sub contractors (E.g all visionstream "employees" contract to visionstream)

You only have a relationship with your ISP, who have a relationship with Chorus and not their sub contractors. This unfortantly cause delays / some miscommunication but it is what it is..

Yes once the fibre is live Chorus / Cablenet can connect you up to fibre, You only deal with your ISP

Vodafone won't know much more than you currently, they will also be waiting for the go-ahead from Chorus. One of the Chorus reps here might be able to explain the process more.

Hi

I used to and still occasionaly deal with Chorus Fibre provisioning for businesses. Basically when a fibre order is with consent stage with Chorus, VF is very limited in what information they will be given by Chorus for privacy reasons. Essentially the only information presented to an ISP is how many entities/people need to give consent and how many of those have given it yet. If it is a bodycorp then I can safely guess it is one entity.

Now it might be a good idea to check what your aparment is wired for fibre wise from your bodycorp as it may be that the apartment is not wired for Chorus fibre but to only one particular provider and you may find yourself restricted to a particular provider for your connection. I have encountered situations where this is the case.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Thanks, I hope the building is already wired for Chorus Fibre.
But considering CableNet are connecting the fibre from the road to the building, and considering VF have told me Chorus are waiting for consent, I am worried that the Fibre which is currently on its way will not be able to be used for a VF product.

why

people have told you cable net contract to chorus, vodafone offer UFB over chorus in auckland.

your bigger issue is can chorus connect to the cabling in your building

If people say they sub-contact to chorus, does that mean they don't sub-contact to anyone else then?

If it's a non-issue, why the message from VF then (and others in this thread) that VF require Chorus Fibre? That would indicate to be that it is important to know which Fibre is being laid to the building by CableNet. Please correct my understanding here if it's wrong.

Sorry,excuse my lack of understanding about the infrastructure.

No one is laying fibre for consumer access in Auckland except for Chorus as far as I'm aware - and Chorus subcontracts all their work out, they don't have any actual technicians directly employed. It will always be a subcontractor doing the installation.

Nothing to worry about, things are proceeding as normal.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

VF are not a fibre optic cable supplier for UFB - they are a retail supplier of services over the chorus UFB fibre network, just like the other service providers like snap, spark, myrepulic to name a few.

So it is not a Vodafone Fibre.

CableNet are a sub/subcontractor to Chorus and they will be contracted to install the fibre within the building a behalf of Chorus and are likely to be the contractors that will install the connection from the communial network fibre in the street to a distribution hub in your building.

If for some strange reason Cablenet are installing fibre for another network company in your building (which I very much doubt ) on behalf of your body Corp - that is a differnt matter and something you need to ask your Body Corp as this would be nothing to do with the government supported UFB roll out, Chorus or VF
