Does anyone know if Vodafone allows you to keep your email address if you're not a broadband customer anymore? I.e. Pay a small fee for email only account?

Google found this and this

Generally using ISP email addresses is a bad idea, it's time to move over to gmail/outlook/your own domain.

Best piece of advice I ever got, and couldn't support this more.   Gives the freedom of ISP's without any email issues.  Take the leap, let everyone know, and don't look back.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Thanks! I strangely couldn't find those when I searched. Totally agree about moving to another domain but its for my parents and they're a bit slow/reluctant to change!

I'm fairly sure the answer is yes, when I canceled my landline and adsl to move to a better ISP they sent me a bill for $10.24 for 2 mailboxes. I didn't specifically ask them to remove them when cancelling my account.

I retain my ihug email account (through vodafone) even though Vodafone arent my ISP. They charge $5.12 a month.

just setup a gmail account for them (or similar), and get that to download all their emails from vodafone.

Then make their outgoing email address their new gmail address and it their default address.

So they will still get all their emails, but always respond or create new ones with their new account.   Then after a few months or so, you can stop using the vodafone one.

They can still use outlook or whatever if they like a desktop mail client, just point that to gmail.

This is how I did it for my parents.

you could buy your own domain name for less than that costs you in a year.

I know of people who are tied in so much with their ISP account email back in the dial up days that it is just easier to pay the monthly charges. Question is why bother and how can they justify spending that every month?

Because $5 per month is small change and people like having the familiarity of same email address.

I've still got my ihug one going since 1997 and the same web address. Bit retro I know.

They are the password reset address for many accounts and I can't be bothered going round to change them all.

Take timmmay and others advice.  Get them off that and free them up.
Why you're at it, check if they actually use anything on Sky that can't be seen on freeview now too wink

Like it or not swapping internet/phone providers is still much more difficult than it should be, but whilst you won't be doing it often for parents, it's still worth persevering and moving them off the ISP mail addresses.

I don't happily pay for it, but I am paying for two old ihug addresses. I threatened family members with disconnection about a year and a half ago, and set them up with a custom domain on Outlook.com (which works great) and have it collecting the ihug mail.

Still haven't got round to cancelling. Must check what is still coming through ihug. will be mostly mass mailers I think.

TREVOR! I am utterly shocked that you still have an ISP email address... and paying for it! surprised

Custom domain on outlook.com sounds interesting. How can you monitor whether emails are still coming to the old address?
