Hi all I have a couple of questions to ask.
My brother lives in the country and guess what can't get Dsl, So he is looking at Wired country 256up and 1meg down.
What are peoples experiences with Vfx over wired country
Can you port the telecom number to Vfx without Xnet BB I thought you could but the FAQ made it confusing.
Does Vfx have a trial system available (for example rent the Hardware) to make sure you are satisfied before cutting your telecom line,  My brother doesn’t want to spend the money and cut his telecom line if vfx does not work as goodas his telecom line. His telecom line is also his business line so you can understand the need for it to be 100%.
I currently have Vfx over Dsl and have been very happy.

Hi there I can answer one of your questions and that is the number portability one. Yes you can port a telecom number to the VFX service. Xnet have got an application form on their website to do this Here is the link http://www.xnet.co.nz/pdfs/form_numberport.pdf I too have VFX at my place and also really pleased with the service it gives me. The only other question I could try to answer is the one about the wireless broadband issue and the answer is in xnets FAQs as well where I think it says any BB conection in NZ will support the VFX service as it needs a minimum of about 30kbps so his up and down rates should easily support it. As for the trial of the service I couldnt answer that one for sure. He may like to keep his receipt and try to return the equipment where he bought it from if he wasnt happy with the service.

I use VFX over DSL, so can't give you feedback on how well it works on wireless, but from general feedback it should be fine. As for trialing the service, the easiest way is to first get the hardware with maybe a 14day right of return (if you can). Then setup call diversion on your Telecom line. Once setup, you will get a separate VFX number, you divert your Telecom number to it. Once you are happy, you then port your Telecom number and you'll be all done (hey you could even keep you temporary VFX number as a 2nd line if that is helpful).

We run a Wired Country connection here (in Newmarket) and DVX (the business offering of VFX) works well over that connection.  You just need to have a router that does Quality-of-Service.

I also think there are no contract periods for VFX so your brother could signup for Wired Country and VFX, and if VFX doesn't work too well just cancel it and use Wired Country as his internet connection.  It'll be better than the dialup he's using at the moment.

Cheers

I use VFX with Wired Country and it has been rock solid. I have a WRTP54g which I bought from c1 shopping mall. It has gone really well. I ported from telecom which went well. Note that there is a $20 porting fee which is not on the application form.

We have a 5 GB data cap and I estimate we use around 3 GB of data for the phone and that would be heavy usage. We have the 1 Mbit  / 256 Kbit connection and have no issues with break-up on the VOIP even with heavy downloading People who call us don't know any different from a standard telecom line. The WRTP54G does have QOS.

We have had 3 or 4 outages since joining in April. It will be better now that there is call forwarding - unreachable. The biggest pain about the outages has been that there is no 0800 number for Compass Wireless so I end up chewing through mobile minutes to tell them about a Wireless outage. We have never had a VFX outage, they have always been Compass outages.

From my point of view it is a great service and I wouldn't go back!

Cheers,

Matt.

I myself am on Wired Country actually before that it was Radio Net so been on it for about 3 or 4 years now, have had a couple of outages but generally it is pretty stable and I have been running VOIP for quite some time with a lot of different devices Wink, early on it had a few issues but generally is pretty good now, but it will depend on which radio site you connect to the one  I'm on presently works okay for me.

No sorry we don't have a trial but you can leave at any time if you don't like the service we don't lock our customers in Laughing

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink
