Hi all,
First time poster....
I've been having TCL woes much like others and I wanted to share my experiences. Location: Newlands, Wellington.
Long version is documented here
tl;dr version:
1) Phone stopped ringing in. We could ring out ok though. Cable modem drops occasionally
2) Tech gets booked: "If its your fault then you pay, if its outside then we pay"
3) Tech finds dodgy internal wiring for phones causing short - fixes it. Also finds dodgy external wiring between pole and grey box on house - puts in temp patch and logs a revisit to get cable properly replaced.
4) Without anyone being home, external wiring replaced properly (so we thought)
5) Realise days later than NO phone works incoming or outgoing. Get a divert to cellphone put on.
6) Start to get VERY sh!tty with 1st reps and finally get hold of DDI to 2nd Level and start to get to teh bottom of it...
7) Seems when they replaced the pole to house cable they couldn't access the house (despite trying to arrange to be home early THREE times) and they stuffed up the rewiring.
8) Ask for refund - finally get hold of someone that can auth. a refund - think it's all over.
9) Credit card bill comes - they've billed us, not only the amount they were going normally charge us, but also teh cellphone diverts AND the tech call out fee..... I'm now passed sh!tty.....
10) Ring 2nd Level and they say they will make sure teh bill is sorted. (Still waiting on that one).
11) Modem starts dropping again. Usually happens when I'm using BitTorrent - which I understand can flood connections, so have it limited.
12) Start to think it's my Netgear router - so put an extra NIC in the wife's PC and ICS share the connection...
13) w00t - 900+ kb/s in BT. rock solid...... for about a day .... ICS service stops and refuses to restart.... rebooting the XP PC fixes it.
14) Start to look at other routing options - currently trying to either cobble together a freesco box, or unbrick a Linksys router.
15) While downloading (via http) a bootdisk ISO, the connection drops (this time with the modem cycling thru it's indicator lights) and powercycling the modem takes about 1-2 hours for to come right. (much like a few other people here have been posting). Also a single BT got to 0.6% before it crapped out my connection.....
16) Posting here today ;)
