Tonight my Xnet ADSL is not just slow - it's gone ! (Auckland North Shore)

Using my long-dormant ATTGlobal dial-up account, I criuse to the XNET home page to check the Network Status. If I don't do that - and just tear apart the system to replace the ADSL router - I always find that my personal problem is, in fact, regional.

Anyway, I search diligently over the XNET homepage - and then through all the menus - and I'm dmed if I can see a Netwok Status link anywhere. I know XNET is proud of being a high-quality service, but this is over-optimistic.

I'm aware of the Ticker service running at the top of the page - but it slowly waffles on about Francton and Wellington being resolved two days ago. Not really current status...

So I drop Network Status into the search box and lo! up comes the expected Status page.
A bit of a disappointment, as the last item is from September.
So now I don't have much confidence - one way or the other.

Come on guys - you can do better than this. Scap the eye-candy ticker bar (why would I want it there when all is well?) and give us back an honest network status log.

A classic example of KISS.

Thanks for the comments Paul,

Appreciate all comments, but I suppose this is one of those things that we will probably never satisfy everybody the ticker is something a lot of people do like as by clicking on it takes you to the expanded network staus page, it's quick and simple but like anything soome people like it and some wont.

It's actually quite funny I was discussing this yesterday with someone form the office and we were looking at a couple of ideas we have for being more directly linking notifications, however in saying that we do keep it current with any outage notifications we receive.

We will always look to improve things if they don't work and feedback is valuable for this so once again appreciate the comments

What maverick said - you can actually click the status messages and it takes you to the (updated!) status page :).

The only change I'd personally recommend Phil is to make the actual words "Network Status" clickable as well, as opposed to just the particular status message - it makes it clearer you're going to the network status overview page.  Chucking a link in "support" as well couldn't hurt!

Thanks Guys - so blindingly obvious that I didn't see it.

Still on dial-up, but one of XNET's helpful lads (on the helpdesk, this afternoon) suspects that I have an old & sick Nokia board in my Telecom exchange - and he put in a Telecom work ticket at 14:00 today, to go and check it.

As I type this (19:00), it's still out; so maybe Telecon's having another slow day or maybe it's something worse...

Tomorrow may bring relief.

Well - sometimes the simple solution is the right one ;-)

Swapped the router and all is well - I have connection.

The unit that became 'unwell' was a reputable unit that was about 6 months old. My previous unit had lasted over 2 years before a lightning surge took it out. (My assumption - it died during a  thunderstorm...)

Thanks again to Simon at XNET - who followed up (out of work hours - most impressive) and allowed me to get back online.

Regards
Paul

Here we call the companies by their real names. Please note this.

Loosen up guys - it is a real name, just the wrong one. Check out www.telecon.com.

BTW - it was a typo on my part - if you look at the keyboard, you'll see 'n' lurks quite close to 'm' ;-)

Usually ascribed to Bonaparte:

Lets put it this way: You have been warned that you need to refer to companies by their names and not by abusive terms. If you carry on, removal of posts or bans may result.

If unsure, please check the forum usage guidelines.

Brad Stewart

> "If you carry on"

I have pointed out that it was an honest mistake.

Now you pursue the matter with threats and a clear implication that I am lying and that it was a deliberate attempt to be offensive.

Well - that is far more offensive than what you are attacking me for.

I would like an apology please ! Here and now.

Brad is just doing his job of pointing out the rules. You say it was a mistake but from the number of times this term was used in an abusive form (not by you) and due to the context I have my doubts.

We don't let people use derrogatory terms because we can then guarantee the forum is clean and focused.

Talking about focus I am locking this discussion because the original question was answered and this is way off topic.
