It was obvious (to us) that it was a scammer.

Apparently my broadband is going to be cut off if I don't follow their steps to resolve the issue.

I didn't have time to string them along, so I told them I had stolen my computer from the neighbours and hadn't been able to break the password yet.  They hung up.

*chuckle*

The last Microsoft Tech Support call I had, I was able to keep them on the line for just under an hour, advising that my computer was not near the phone, so each step involved them waiting for 3-5 minutes.

My wife (who is a complete technophobe) is now playing the game and is able to keep them on the line for more than 20 minutes.  Apparently the only credit card we have was stolen from the neighbours because with 15 children the bank won't give us one.  She's awesome.  :)

Love to get two of them ringing at work, and just put them on the line to one another....  wonder if the universe would implode.

I'm guessing you worked out it wasn't really Vodafone because they didn't make you wait 45 minutes before talking to you?

Currently, the scammers are identifying themselves as from Spark and Vodafone where they used to say they were from Microsoft. The aim seems to be to get bank account details.

Just saw on the newspaper that some old guy fell into the scam - apparently from spark. Almost $16000 until the bank stop it.

This is different as you would know you have logged a fault ticket and they would use your name

Perhaps when people get old they need to have a gullibility test to be allowed to access online services?

If they give me free stuff I know it's a scam.

I'm worried when they ask to pay bill because now it sounds more genuine! Luckily all my bills are billed electronically ... Yes I'm afraid of what happens when I grow older

Last ones I have just told "I'm sorry, I don't conduct business by telephone", and waited for them to re-start the script before repeating it and hanging up.

Posting in the right tab this time. Doh.

Never logged a fault in this instance. it was a cold call from vodafone about data on the connection.
