Setting aside that faster is better, we are moving and getting vodafone cable internet. Is it worth the $10 per month to up the speed?
Internet usage is pretty rudimentary, lots of online streaming but we had an average adsl2 connection so not sure we will get worse than we expect.
I'm thinking get the 50mbps and then upgrade when the need arises.

Connect to 50 if you want more then move to 100 very straight forward, just remember don't expect full speed over Wifi

It's up and down. Most of the times I get 130/10 (my plan, which doesn't seem to exist anymore). However after hours it can drop to 20-40/10, tested on ethernet connections using Vodafone's own internal test server (which is inside its network).

Interestingly upload speeds are constantly on the mark. Steve Biddle seems to think this is due to the unlimited plan option and strong network utilisation, which wasn't the case a few months back.

Mostly I am very happy with cable - been on it since around 1999.

Been curious lately if some kind of traffic shaping is happening as some download types seem very slow at times. Not sure however.

I've recently re-signed on to the unlimited Cable but it came at a cost of dropping from 130/10 to 100/10 :-(

At most time, I can achieve close to 100Mbps for download, though that can fluctuate depending on when throughout the evening (or weekend). The upload is consistent at 10Mbps however.

We have -$10 for being OnAccount mobile, and +$10 for the speed upgrade, it's worthwhile at least for us.

An ex-employee said that the equipment on cable doesnt support traffic management, instead it gets congested and that's why it slows down

Could've changed since then but not likely?

I've been VF cable in Wellington since the days of TelstraClear, and have been on both 50/2Mbps and 100/10Mbps plans (currently).

Both plans are a huge improvement on ADSL.
Both plans may slow down during peak hours (esp. at 9pm-10pm) - but even then they are much faster than ASDL.
The 50/2 plan has problems with upstream saturation during heavy usage by multiple users (2Mbps upstream is very slow).
You will find that your data usage increases greatly when you get a higher speed connection (mine went from 50Gb per month on ADSL to 500Gb per month on cable.)

Thanks,

2mbps up will outdo my current ADSL connection, will start on 50/2 and see how we go.
