Just wondering if anyone else who has a Telecom S3 that is now using a Vodafone SIM has been able to access Semble? Seems to me that, just because the Telecom S3 is a GT-I9300T rather than a GT-I9300 which Vodafone supports, the application refuses to be allowed to be used...

I think they are technically different phones (T has 850 support, non-T doesn't?), but regardless it won't run by default unless Vodafone get the T version added their list of compatible phones.

Anyway you could probably just flash the Vodafone ROM over it and it should work OR
You can delete the T from the build.prop file and it should work.

If your unsure on what those two things above mean/do then it might not be the best idea. As always do at your own risk etc.

Yeah I get that they are technically different phones but I guess in terms of the Semble technical requirements they are really the same - as you say hopefully Vodafone will just add the T version to their list of supported phones or else they may get a bit of an influx of calls as I can imagine there's probably quite a few Telecom S3s sitting on Vodafone (or maybe not :) )

There is no difference in hardware between the normal S3 and the T model. The difference is that the T model was designed to be shipped with restrictions and customizations on it.

Back when it was released I just flashed the Vodafone firmware onto my T model and it was no different, apps certainly couldn't tell the difference.

Is the problem with the installation (Play Store listing it as incompatible) or is the app itself blocking it? If the former, what happens if you put a Spark prepaid SIM in, download/install the app, then put the Vodafone SIM back in?

When the app is launched it checks that the phone model, manufacturer, android version and the currently connected network match the app (and that apps list of supported phones)

Don't forget the part about a ROM with carrier bloatware (and occasionally locked out customization options) being required.

Would imagine the T variant just hasn't filtered over to the Vodafone NZ whitelist yet. Semble are cross-pollinating devices from other networks as resource for testing allows. Will have a word and let you know when I hear back.

There is a minor hardware change with the T variants, they have additional power amplifiers to prioritise the 850MHz 3G band used by T-for-Telstra and T-for-Telecom.

Or you could just buy the Vodafone variants and not worry about either of those beyond My Vodafone, which can be uninstalled or disabled if required. :)

Locked-out customisation options are mostly limited to Australia. Have always wondered how many complaints & returns it took for them to feel the need to lock down the dock on Galaxy devices.

Thanks NikT - here's hoping that the T variant can be loaded up soon so I can stop dragging my wallet around everywhere :)

No worries. The i9300T was a pilot test device for Spark along with the HTC One M7, so I'm surprised it hasn't filtered across yet!

Cheers,

To be fair I'm only guessing that the issue is with the model - still awaiting a reply from the incident I raised via the helpdesk to confirm that is the actual issue.

What's the error you get? Does it appear immediately as soon as you launch the app? The whitelist gateway error is immediate.

Yeah its the error you get straight away when you launch the app with "Semble is not supported on your phone...Status 15" so definitely sounds like the whitelist is probably the issue.

Hey NikT - just wondering if you ended up managing to find out anything from the Semble guys?

Waiting to hear back, shouldn't be more than a day or so.

EDIT: Not on the whitelist, was low priority as it's the Telecom variant - it's being requested. Will let you know once approved. May require testing, though I certainly don't expect any issues there.
