Hi all,
Struggling with a tough decision.
I've got a $400 Vodafone credit to be spent on a new phone.

Not sure what to get, there is little selection in this price range.

I currently have a Nokia 1020, and like it - both the epic camera and windows phone os.
Not wedded to windows phone.

What's the best bang for buck?

The other thing that is looking at expansys or similar every phone Vodafone sells looks crazy expensive.

Cheers.

If you switch away from Windows just bear in mind the extra cost of repurchasing all your apps again.

What things are important to you in a mobile phone? That might help narrow down the selection.

Good question

I do a lot of work email, so that's number 1.
Young kids, so camera is probably number two.

Bot of gaming, not heaps of apps really.
I do use it ad a gps a bit, but I think everything does that now days.

I saw the 640, could do the job.
At the moment its the front runner, for no other reason than I already know the lumias and they work well.

This is because Vodafone (and every other Telco) main business is being a service provider not handset retailer.
If price is your primary concern then I don't suggest looking for a new handset from a carrier.
If you're after a handset that has been optimised for the best experience on that network aswell a much more reliable route if any warranty issue arise then you're best option is buy from the carrier you plan to use.

IMO For $400 from a carrier you're not going to get anything that much better than your current 1020, is there any reason you're wanting to change phones or is it just because you have a $400 credit after resigning?

I don't like contracts and I'm realistic about my needs (calling texting, viber, watsapp, camera). I prefer getting either the iPhones or top of the line Samsung S3/4/5/Note as they last longer compared to the low end el cheapos. However, my threshold is $600 so it mostly ends up being a case of waiting 12months in case of Samsung and 2yrs  incase of Apply for the phone price to become affordable for me. If I were you, I would invest in an S3/S4.

I've no experience with Windows phones.

$400 credit, and my 1020 is being taken awaynot $400 cash.

Since this is a work phone any top up I put on it will be lost.

So have to choose off vodas site, or pay myself.
