Just saw a relatively prominent ad in today's DomPost from TCL for a broadcast engineer who has skills in cable technology, DSL and also broadcast IP to work on a brand new exciting project :-)

I wonder if that means TCL is looking seriously at IP Video to complement/replace their current cable service?  Possibly implement their PVR as a network device rather than a local hard drive based unit as most are.

Interesting to sepculate.

I would be tempted to not read too much into it.

Experience with major telcos like TCL has taught me that "a brand new exciting project" could be a boring old run of the mill project (like head-end expansion or a new maintenance schedule) dressed up.

You never know though. Wink

TCL have mentioned in the past that their PVR service will NOT involve a STB upgrade, so will likely be network based:

Interested? the principal architect (7+ years) for TV found a new and exciting job, and it meant good things for him and his career. So away he goes, creating a vacancy.

As for the rest of the ad - well, we're not all just sitting at work surfing the web you know!

Yes I got that information directly from another TCL insider. Still it's interesting to speculate :-)  Also suggested the ad be placed in GZ - more selected targeting of potential applicants
