Hi, i live in wellington

just got the cable installation completed today

and i did a speed test at 2pm today (100mb down /10mb up)

which was quite fast

But during the peaking hour at night, the down speed drop to 15-20mb

It is normal? because i used VDSL before and it didn't have such a big drop during the peaking hour.

I'm on VF cable 100/10Mbps in Wellington.
My connection is monitored 24/7 by TrueNet.

Here are my downstream speeds for the past week:

The yellow line is my connection.
The blue line is the average of other monitored cable users in Wellington.

Welcome to the club!

EDIT  VF are upgrading their upstream hardware urgently.

Yeah that's it I'm cancelling my install scheduled this weekend.  Might try again in 6 months.

"Allegedly doing" I think you mean. Not apparent in the last 7 months. Worse than ever. Glad to see they are adding more customers!

Live in Brooklyn and so far so good. Getting 100/10 even on peak hrs. Probably not much cable users here...

Do you get a new cable modem for this 100/10 plan?

I have cable broadband  50/2 in Stokes Valley. Did a speedtest last night and wired through Ethernet and the best I could get was 20 on the downlink but was still able to watch you tube videos in 1080P.

People who previously had a Motorola SurfBoard Cable Modem (DOCSIS 2) on a 15/2 plan and upgrade to a 50/2 or 100/10 plan have their modem upgraded to the newer Cisco DPC3008. (DOCSIS 3)

New customers get the Cisco DPC3008

I'm on the 100/10 and that's what have. Thanks for the info.

The reason I ask is although I'm on 100/10, it's generally 30/1. Maybe I've seen 50 but not for a while, and my upload is definitely capped at 1MB and painful for for Google Photos and other services like that. Whenever I upload stuff it has a major impact on everything.

Throw in the current awful network performance mainly at night, it makes it even worse.

I reckon you might be getting MB(yte) mixed up with Mb(it). 10Mb is about 1.2MB/sec upload so if that is what you are getting then your upstream is about as advertised. Your downstream seems pretty standard for peak time at the moment but if you are seeing that off-peak then you may have some other issue.

Heh, I remember the DOCSIS modems were just being rolled out when I worked there. Before that, everyone had a 3COM cable modem (from memory).

The cable congestion problem effects downstream speeds only - upstream speeds are typically rock-steady, even at peak times (9pm).
