Hi,

I have had an on-gong problem with my WRTP54G losing the time and date in the voice module whenever I reset the router. Not too much of an issue except that the DECT phones always tell me the caller called on January the 1st. Does anyone have the required DNS settings under VOICE -> SYSTEM -> DNS for the WRT? I am with Compass wireless. Should it be the Compass DNS or WXC's or should I just leave them blank?

Cheers,

Matt.

Hi Matt,

You need to enter the WxC DNS settings as follows:

Primary DNS 58.28.4.2 and Secondary DNS 58.28.6.2

Once you have done that, the WRTP54G will pick up its time and date from WxC.  To set the time and date on your phone, call it from some other line and you should see the LCD get updated immediately Cool

Cheers,
Grant.

this will be your problem, it requires DNS to resolve the time server ntp.wxnz.net , if you have a static setup put our ones in the DNS ebtry field if you like since I know them Laughing, 58.28.4.2 & 6.2 , The compass DNS entries should also work as ntp.wxnz.net is fully resolvable, with no DNS in there on a static IP on the wrtp will cause this time sync issue as it can't resolve ntp.wxnz.net.....I too am on compass wireless Wink

Or you can use the Compass ones of 203.152.112.32 & 203.152.100.32 if you want that whole 1ms of faster ns lookups Wink

Some ISPs do not like you using their name servers if you not on their network. Most of the teir 2's in NZ do not currently have any policy preventing this however.

Yep. Thanks Maverick. All sorted at the moment. I put the WXC DNS into the voice module of the WRT and it reset. However, when I go back into the voice module the DNS windows are blank. It seems to be an intermitant thing that occurs occasionaly on a reset. Perhaps it could be a firmware thing? I will see how it goes and let you know if it crops up again. Great service!

Cheers, Matt.

I typically use nz.pool.ntp.org as the time server if I'm configuring a time server on a device. It means you're not tied to a specific ISP.

Thanks Steve. Will give that a go if I have further problems.

Great Maverick. DNS settings now stay put after reset. Thanks very much!

Another good ISP-agnostic NTP server to use is:

msltime.irl.cri.nz

This is run locally by Industrial Research or what used to be the DSIR.  It is based on a Caesium-Beam Atomic Time Standard and hence is very accurate and not subject to the latency that occurs with overseas NTP servers.
