Hi,

I have a DynaLink RTA770W ADSL Router and trying to connect my Paradise (Telstra) cable internet connection. Can it be done.
I know it is not a cable modem but can it act as a router when I give it the ip address configuration to allow connection to Telstra?

The reason is I want to use the wireless. Connecting the router to the cable modem and then all good. I do not have another PC to act a LAN.

Thanks
Andrew

I don't know that specific model of router, but if it's an ADSL modem/router, then you won't be able to do what you want. You need to get a wireless router that has an ethernet port to connect to the internet. (So the cable modem connects to the ethernet port of the router.)

The RTA770w will not be what you need. What you need to look for is a wireless access point such as a Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 (which is what I use - I am on ADSL as I am in Auckland but will work perfectly with the cable modems).

The features that the router you get needs to have is 1) Static IP support, 2) NAT (network address translation) and 3) Needs to have an ethernet port for the modem connection (usually the ethernet port is labelled 'modem').
