Hi everyone

A firmware update to the Vodafone HG659 wireless modem/router used for most of our UFB and VDSL connections is now available. The new firmware includes improvements to wifi, DNS, phone features like caller id, and adds some new features like guest wifi.

Upgrading the firmware will reset some advanced settings, so if you have used the admin login to make changes please follow the instructions to backup your current settings. Please also note upgrading the firmware will change your current admin password to "@" and then the last 8 digits of your HG659 serial number, e.g. "@12345678".

There's full steps and a link to the firmware on our site here http://help.vodafone.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/24400/

Cheers

Dylan

Didnt help noone at Vodafone seemed to be talking to one another to actually acknowledge an issue to start with...  too many cooks maybe... ;)

Be interesting to see if this updates works though, might throw the Xbox on the HG659 wifi-N on its own and leave everything else on the Unifi....

Many thanks for the heads up. I'll download it tonight and install it. Really pleased I'm going to have the ability to add guest wifi as this was bugging me quite a bit.

Hopefully this'll also sort out the problem I'm having with not being able to see the devices in my MAC white list, and eliminate the need for me to try a factory reset.

Gonna keep an eye on this and wait for the brave people on this thread to be Vodafone's guinea pigs firmware tester. ;)

Upgrade done, it works, too soon to say any more :-)

Upgrade done - very simple. One little gotcha though - the upgrade wiped out my UnoTelly DNS settings, leaving the fields blank. Didn't take long to figure this out with the error messages I was getting from teh interwebs. Re-entered the DNS settings I had before, on my computer did an ipconfig /release followed by an ipconfig /renew and I'm away laughing.

No difference in my line speeds but those weren't expected.

No difference in wifi availability or strength through the house but that's probably because of the house layout and my lack of AP's to compensate.

The big win - I can once again modify the MAC whitelist!!! I am very pleased :-)

The guest networks (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz) were simple to set up and secure and my devices connect easily.

I'll get some streaming to a few devices running concurrently fairly soon (wired and wireless), including a Chromecast, and see how we go from there...

Update
Streaming to my Lounge Chromecast (Lightbox: Vikings) and
Streaming to my LAN connected bedroom TV (Netflix: Life on Mars (UK)) and
Streaming to a tablet in another bedroom (Netflix: random cartoon) and
Wife surfing on her smartphone

No problems.

Well after the upgrade the Admin log in doesn't work. Vodafone couldn't log in to it either hmmmmm. Lucky I have a spare which was retired due to wifi issues but at least the Ethernet works. So still have Netflix.
