As above,

does vfx support type 2 caller id?

type 2 caller id is where you get both the number, and the name of the person that number is registered to.

thanks

I've never heard it called Type 2 CID but the answer is yes.

You only get alphanumeric CID for other VFX subscribers however since there is no way for the subscriber info to be made available to WxC.

Was there mention of a future feature whereby you can create your own private phone book, or was it a user request?  Would be very useful!

I suggested it. This is very simple to do with Asterisk and I have my system set up like this.

What about cross referencing numbers to the white pages if listed.
Slingshot does this with their billing system so it must be possible.

The answer is yes to this, but as someone explained this will occur for VFX to VFX customers only as the older networks won't pass the name part in traditional PSTN handoffs only the CLI part.

As for the private phone booxs, there may be opptions for this in the future, we have a large number of feature sets we can bring on board but when we we will offere these will depend on a number of things....more to follow on this in the future

That would most likely be against YPG's TOS. YPG recently cracked down on the use of their Whitepages product for business use, and resulted in some Telstra customers being unable to acess their directory websites.

If your were to implement a private phone book look up, then maybe tagging the ID with the descriptions for speed dial 100 entries?

Would I be correct in assuming that the name/number CID for outgoing VFX calls is passed onto other networks? So if their network is name/number CID capable (italk maybe?), or as other providers move to VoIP, then they too would get full name/number CID?

Yes that can be done, generally a little configuration needed to work offnet but very possible.

It certainly isn't the whitepages that italk/2talk use, because people I know who have had their current number for 2 years have someone else come up on the italk visibill thing, friends have their ex's names on it when they were taken off the telecom account over 5 years ago etc.

To make it worse they apparently have no way of fixing it. I would say no to names unless they can 100% guarantee that they are correct.

I would like it if I can enter my details myself on-line and only those details are used, as well as an option for enabling it only for selected people (like only people that are also in my phone book).  I can see a business opportunity once other providers also pass on caller ID details without charging customers for it, we need an independant white pages system where end users can manage themselves what goes into it.
