i was wondering why my nokia 640 on my vodafone sim  has download speeds of 22mbps while my RBI connection averages about 8mpbs down
of course the ping is much better with  my RBI, about 55 / 65 and phone about 100
could it be that my phone is picking up the 2100 mhz and RBI does not use that

I would say the handset supports Dual carrier and the RBI unit does not

What model RBI modem have you got?

a B683, an older unit
i did have correspondence with voda about upgrading it, but it was going to be complicated and very expensive for me
our tower is being upgraded to 4G in 2 weeks but i have another year to go on my contract so i can not afford the  $360 break fee , plus the $99 instalation fee, so i will wait another year.
i did wonder about buying a 3G/4G modem now that i could use in a years time if it were possible to do that under my contract.
if it helped my speed

do you think vodafone would let me do that and keep my current plan,
$400 is a lot to pay for me, to go to 4G, rural people are not all that well off
what  modem would you recommend, do you think vodafone would post it out
i shouldnt need a technician if i am just connecting it to my antenna and keeping on 3g

no
i could probably exist on what i have got
however i do have the voip phone and 4G would maybe help with latency
also we run an online weather station and weather web cam that uploads every 5 minutes.
we also FTP to several weather sites and in the summer get a lot of traffic
also we have flight tracker linux box that sends to germany
all through the modem.
we are in a tourist town so speed gets pretty slow in the summer

i am in golden bay
and apparently according to vodafone  who i rang, they have a retention team that can look at upgrading people so they do not go elsewhere to other providers.
i might give it a go.
not that i have any leverage, there is no where else to go
its ok i am pretty grateful to have what i have got, living in the middle of nowhere like i do

Spark are starting to roll out their RBI product so when your local RBI tower gets co-located, you will have another option. I think it's north to South so you might be a wee way away yet.
