How much does it cost to "call" a pager? You talk to an operator and leave a message, which I assume gets sent to the pager. I know it's fairly rare that most people want to, but I can't find prices anywhere - I didn't look all that hard to be honest.

I'd imagine it'd be at least (and perhaps only, if receiver pays) the cost of a standard mobile call (as it's lumped in with the non-geographical numbers 02x - although Antarctica is an exception, so maybe pagers are too).

This is similar but possibly not quite what you're looking for:

We use MessagePage for work, if one of our staff miss a call then it diverts to a answering person at Vodafone, if a message is left with them the message is then sent via text message to the staff members phone with a call back number.

This is only available on Business Accounts though, cost is $12 p/m then $1 per message or $49 p/m with no cost per message.

It used to cost 20c many years ago. I don't imagine it would be much more than that.

Going rate use to be 60c a hit.

Not exactly able to do much more than guesses when it depends on the person who owns the pager and what (or rather who and different services) they signed up for. Owner pays, calls to it are cheaper. Owner doesn't pay, caller pays more.

That seems to be the cost to own a pager, isn't it? It also says the cost to call a pager on the minicall network. How does that relate to the cost of a Vodafone customer calling an existing pager number?

I think there's something I'm not fully understanding here...

Vodafone doesn't run a pager network. Vodafone customers call the minicall pagers.

Paging network is run on spark, and or other operators using the network (kinda like cell co-sharing) so the rates differ between service provider and service you get.

But for the most part you are calling someone on an 086 number who has either subscribed to a service, and pays for the person to answer and page them (charging a minimal fee to the caller to intercept or cell diversion to it), or a numerical call straight to your pagers ID where there is no plan paid for. Back in 2001 this fee was 10c for the subscribed service model (found an old doc), but it now varies depending on if its the advanced BuzzMe service, or plain jane minicall that the person is dialling from their home/mobile

Let me confirm I understand the scenario you are describing.

Are you asking "How much does the calling party (a Vodafone customer) pay when calling a Spark paging number in the format 026 1xxxxx"? This describes when you call the paging message service for a business paging customer. Minicall and Buzzme were (are?) consumer paging services where the calling party pays and are different to the business services.

Vodafone should be able to tell you the cost of the call if you give them the number you are calling.

Yes that's exactly right, that's what I mean. I guess I'll just get my wife to log into the online system and see what they charged us. I was just curious really.
