Hi

Currently in UK staying with the inlaws. Have my SP2102 with me and is set up and working great. Question is how much data would say a 10 min phone call use.

Thanks

wmoore: Question is how much data would say a 10 min phone call use.

If you are using the G729 codec (which is the preferred one for general use), a 10 minute phone call will use about 5 - 6MB of data (total of upstream + downstream).  If you work on 30 - 35MB per hour as a rough guideline, it will give you a good idea.

You can tell which codec is in use by looking at the Status Screen of your SPA when a call is in progress.  If for some reason either of the G711 codecs are being used, the data rate is close to 3x the figures I have mentioned above.

You can also check your modem status screen before and after a call to see how much data was sent/received during the call.

G711 is a better quality codec but can use up to 3 times the amount of data compared to the G729 codecs, it is also not designed to handle latency and jitter that can be encountered on a ADSL network as well as the G729 codec, it can suffer from call quality due to these issues.

G729 handles DSL line conditions better but it will not be as good as a good G711 call.

Hope that made sense Laughing
