Hi,

I am wanting to join up ot VFX for calls only and transfer my existing telecom phone number. I have my internet thorugh telstra cable and so that is not an issue. I have got all the hardware ready, but are wondering a bit about the process.

So - i call VFX and set up an account and tell them I want to port my telecom number and thats it? When my number gets ported from telecom does that cancel my telecom account or do i need to do this separately?

Also during the changeover process I would like to be able to keep phone calls coming in...... how does/can that work.

Correct me if i'm wrong since I have also been researching this but I think the correct process is:

1. Sign up with VFX and start using it first on telstra cable keeping telecom account
2. Ring Telecom 123 and ask them to customer link your number to the VFX Number
3. Call World exchange and ask them to port number over

You may *not* need customer link though since you don't use DSL but might be handy if there is a delay in porting the number over. Your landline calls will redirect to your VFX number till then.

Yep, that's pretty much the correct process. This step is optional in your case since you don't have ADSL:

brianthomas: 2. Ring Telecom 123 and ask them to customer link your number to the VFX Number

However, it isn't a bad idea because Customer Link costs $22.50 per month instead of your Landline Rental @ $45 per month.

So, potentially there is a small saving to be had by doing it

It's pretty much as you have have siad, a couple of things, when you port yor number all the services will collapse on the Telecom Line so effectively the line gets cancelled, we recomend that after a couple of weeks youring Telecomn just to confirm they have done this.

When your number gets ported you can select a time that is agreable with you during buusiness hours for this to occur, there will be some down time while all the carriers update their records and sort the call routing, could be up to an Hour or 2 as Telecom complete their end, the Number will be live in WxC on the time you request it

I'm in the process of getting Fusion on other line at home (VFX on my main line is sweet), spoke to TCNZ, created a request to hold my numbers at the Exchange, TCNZ charge of $22.50 per number is to hold the number at the exchange so these number will not be allocated to someone else. All they gave me is ticket reference number related to to this call. My phone line is disconnected at this stage.

When I spoke to WXC this morning I have been told that I have to get a temporary (Phone number?) number for porting this numbers. My understanding of temporary number is forwarding my number to another number (This involves charges again for call forwarding), I'm not worry about missing calls or missing faxes on this line.

I have Xnet broadband and VFX enabled already on this line. Signed up for FUSION this morning faxed the number porting application......My question is I'm I on the right track? do I still have to provide a Temporary phone number to WXC?

No, you only need the temporary number if you want to keep your DSL active on the line being ported but in your case, you already have broadband and VFX active on another line, so don't bother with the temporary number.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone - I know exactly what I need to do know, will switch over to VFX early next week, once I have had another item removed from by Telecom.

Just completed a switch from sky to freeview (on an HTPC I built a couple of years ago), a switch to mediaportal from mce 2005 and next week to VFX. A saving of about $70-$80 a month, with a better service. Nice.
