hey guys,

Im getting telstra cable internet, but want to flag their phone line so can get vfx,

What will i need to buy in order to plug in my regular phone into the cable modem????

Was guessing i need a small switch or router as the cable modem only has 1 RJ45 port? but just wanting to know what else will need or even what other peoples set up is that works well for them???

Thanks alot

Conor

The simplest solution is to get one of these:

It's a router with 4 x Wired Ethernet Ports, 2 x Phone Ports and Wireless Access Point.  It will plug directly into your Telstra Cable Modem.

Previously, I had a separate router and ATA, but this is a far tidier solution, and it has QoS to ensure the quality of your voice calls.

Model Number is WRTP54G and full details are here:

If so seems like really sweet deal considering they are like $250 everywhere else

Yep, that's the one.  As it says on that page though:

Prices are subject to change without notice & are quoted Ex GST & freight in NZ Dollar.

So, all-up price is likely to be $180 or so.  Still a pretty good deal though Smile
