Hi All

In a article in the Dom Post last year, TelstraClear stated that they were going to launch a PVR for their cable tv, something similar to Sky's Mysky.

I spoke to the saleman at the showroom in Couretney Place and he said that due to the upgrading to their higher quality digital that this had been canned.

Does anybody out there have any info on if this is still happening?

Cheers Paul.

Nothing's been announced at all. Rather than wait just go build a PVR using something like GBPVR, Dreambox or whatever. Does the job and you get your PVR now.

I think somebody was offering them on this forum. I have no idea about the legality of the devices but they do use the TCL Smartcard so you aren't stealing cable.

Looked interesting but I just wasn't ready since I am reasonably happy with a gbpvr solution.

Paul

I did import a number of DM500C's clones ex-china into the country, however due to lack of interest I decided not to import any more. Just after I announced I wouldn't import any more cable boxes 3 people asked me if they could get them... go figure. If I do decide to get more then PM me

From personal experence I have one at home and they work well. It can record over the network to a Windows Share etc.

Using the box is however against the TCL's T&C's as you are not allowed to connect anything other than TCL supplied hardware to their network. That being said I have been reasonably open and honest about what I am doing, and I would be extremely suprised if they were causing any RF inteference as it's just another STB which isn't earthed.  You also need a valid Digital subscription, and take your Telstra card out of your current box and plug it into the dreambox.

Just got myself a DM600PVR yesterday which is the same size as a 500 (3 normal DVD covers ontop of each other), however it also takes a 2.5" IDE disk as well (it now has a 250GB disk in it ;), this box is very sweet I have to say, and I am going to be buying a Cable tuner (as it comes with a Satellite one built in) so I can use that at home instead. It does the recordings, and all the PVR type stuff and seems to support Live Pause as well, not that I have had a chance to try it... If I had a digi cam here I would take a photo but there is a video on youtube and google is your friend, but will try and get some up sometime soon.

I got it in from China, and it cost me about $375 NZ once it landed and had to pay duty / gst etc, then I put a 250GB 2.5" Notebook IDE disk in there, that went in very seamlessly.  Then another $110 NZ ontop of that to get a Cable Tuner ex-aussie from a real Dreambox reseller over there... which fingers crossed will turn up in a few days.  However I already know the Cable tuner works since I went around to a guys house in wgtn who has a Dreambox 7025 with a Cable tuner, put it in my box and it scanned the TCL network and worked a treat.  The bugger is my friend uses the Cable tuner daily (as he also has TCL cable) so wasn't prepared to part with it for any length of time....

I am planning to bring some more 600's into the country, and hope they will be around $350 without disk, and then point people to the Dreambox reseller in Aus for a Cable tuner if they want one.
