Ok, I've read all the posts on the forums regarding firmware upgrades for VFX firmware upgrades, but I'm still unclear about a few things:

1. Can & does WxC automatically upgrade the firmware on my PAP2T?
2. If not, can I do this myself (ie; is it recommended)?
3. If so, how? (the unit is locked with an unknown admin username & password)
4. If I do a firmware update, will I loose the current config?
5. If I loose the current config, how do I re-configure it?
6. If I re-configure it, will it make me feel all warm and fuzzy or will I be forever wandering the surface of the planet searching for happiness & contentment?? :D

PAP2T Details:
Hardware Version:    0.3.5
Software Version:    3.1.15(LS)

Thanks in advance!

Sam.

There is no point in upgrading the firmware in your PAP2T because it will probably be overwritten by WxC's provisioning server within about 24 hours after you have done it.

WxC have particular versions of firmware which they are currently using for each approved VoIP device.  I can't tell you which version is currently in use for the PAP2T because I no longer have one.  At one stage it was 5.1.3 but I don't know what it is currently.

Every so often, when there is a reason to do so, WxC will remotely upgrade the firmware of the various VoIP devices which are connected to their VFX servers.  This happens automatically without any action being required on your part.

As you can see, you are best just to leave your PAP2T alone and WxC will take care of the firmware version and configuration for you.

Hi Sam

Grant_K pretty much answered this

1. Yes and Yes
2. No requires the admin password to upgrade and no it's not recommended, the wxc config would overwrite any firmware changes anyway.
3. NA
4. NA
5. If you reset the config, you would have to into the voice / admin / advanced / provisioning tab and put the ptovisioioning rule into the device.

6. I have often wondered this myself but probably not, would be be keen to find out if you do find IP happiness, it's a lovely place apparently that few see  Wink.

Current version is 5.1.5

The reason we control the firmware is to ensure all our services work on know firmware versions, changing firmware could cause certain functions and services not to work

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink
