today was to to be the big day...............

modem arrived late last week in plenty of time...appointment am on 21st December.

all arranged to have the technician arrive this morning, install the modem and complete the necessary work at home.

advised that we had to be at home and cautioned that a missed appointment may result in charges....

technician will call at least 30 mins before arrival....

all set but...........noon...............nothing.............no calls .....no emails................zero.....

waited a while and called the help line.....

a patient young lady in the Philippines tried calling someone in the technical installation department....

she was told all had been activated and was ready for use.......

well that was a surprise to me ...i can tell you....

VDSL installation without a modem...............miracles can obviously still happen at VF

when i explained to her that the modem is still in the box, the landline I am calling on is my "old" line........BUT.......my adsl link was down!!

she returned to the installation gurus and then said that the agent had not flagged an upgrade to VDSL..............but an ADSL upgrade to ADSL.....

in the meantime I get an email stating

Activated Services
Your service is now active and able to be used. You'll receive your welcome pack from us in the mail in the next couple of days. This contains lots of useful information to let you know how to use your new Vodafone services, so you can do more of what you want.

to add insult to injury......I get a text 2 hours later repeating the "you are good to go" message.....

my response after wasting a whole day (which potentially cost me about 5 times the value of the modem).........I replied

fix it by Tuesday or loose my account......

piss-up and brewery come to mind

sorry rant over

@tecnam2003 So did you remove the VDSL modem from the box and plug it into the master telephone jack point? You don't need a tech to do this

Chorus is the one that goes to the exchange / cabinet and does the change over to the VDSL port and install a master filter at the house (if one is not installed)

You would of been sent a Vodafone HG659 that does ADSL and VDSL support now so you can plug it in now and use it you might even get a VDSL connection

Also bit confused by your post

" modem arrived late last week in plenty of time...appointment am on 21st December "

But then this

" VDSL installation without a modem...............miracles can obviously still happen at VF "

Going to pick up on this bit...

Great to know that VF are still doing this, when we were VF VDSL customers and got that message and didn't get anything, nobody knew anything about it, and concluded "There is no such thing" and couldn't understand why it's a bad idea to say they'll be sending stuff when it doesn't exist.  18 months and nothing changed in that regard...

Edit:

O.P. John is quite right here though, it's possible for VDSL to be switched over (the non-install part) by a Chorus tech on the other side of the country, all they do is call up an admin department and get them to complete the order and verify the stats.   It's possible that the Chorus tech wasn't instructed that it was an installation job, or was lazy and took the non-install approach to make up time from a busy schedule.  Plug in the modem VF sent you and give it a go.   Landline with VF when on VDSL is delivered the same as Landline on ADSL which is why your voice circuit likely still works.

I did eventually unpack the modem and plug in the ADSL line...
and I have an internet connection again............albeit at 5Mbps (adsl was 12.07Mbps)..but it is at least a connection.

there is no master filter at the house.

I had expected , and was told to expect, an attending technician would install all the hardware at the house including the modem....which is why i thought it strange that one group were sending me messages of congratulations on joining the VDSL club, when the modem was still carefully packed in a cardboard box on my desk.....that i thought was miraculous!

hope this answers some of your question

Johnr...............have emailed you directly....appreciate any help especially at this time of the year..annual Skype-ing extravaganza
