I know there was a softlaunch for vfx with asterisk, whats the status now for the general public can anyone sign up and get access? If so how to go about it does all the helpdesk guys know about it?

I see the normal web-based signup still requires the mac address and device your connecting instead of having a "other" option.

You just phone them and ask very very nicely Laughing

They will probably remind you that there is no support for Asterisk devices - this is worth remembering! All the support, configuration details, everything (except your login and password) are unofficial and are provided on this site. Make sure you know what your doing (or make sure your happy fiddling with setting for days on end) before signing up.

The last I heard they have over 100 people signed up now on Asterisk, so the person you get on the end of the phone should know what your talking about.

Weve got a DVX setup at work (Asterisk box as well) although I didnt set it up I still can access it and I administer the box so sure I'll be fine the main reason for wanting VFX at home is for doing things I wouldnt dare try without knowing its going to work.

Hi Guys,

Just to clarify, the Asterisk connection is actually across our Direct Connect service, this is different to our VFX/DVX services.. but yes there shouldn't be too much hassel getting your Asterisk VFX service going check here for any required info: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=17174

you will also see a walk through guide at the bottom if needed..

Cheers

Josh

Hi Josh,

I just tried to signup but was told it was only available on business connections (ie 10 ddi minimum etc..etc..) after getting called back by someone who seemed knowledgable at WxC.

Whats the chances of getting it just for my home connection? I'm mainly wanting it so I can configure my home asterisk box to try certain things at home before I implement the changes on my work box (which does have DVX with 5 trunks and 50 odd DDI).

Hi rphenix,

VFX is able to be signed up as an Asterisk connection.. DVX Sip Trunk and DVX Direct Connect however are two different products.. the Direct connect which you are currently on comes into a different part of our network, and all of the services/smart functions are handled by your server.. with our VFX/DVX Sip Trunk products the smarts are able to be handled on our side (although a lot of asterisk users tend to manage them on their asterisk server)..

If you sign up as a VFX user when asked what hardware you wish to use just advise that you will be using Asterisk..

DVX Sip Trunk with Asterisk is still being tested at this stage..

Cheers

Josh

You can get VFX on a Asterisk box, it is however not a trunking service with multiple DDI's and concurrent calls it is a single VFX line with a single DDI,

There might have been confusion in thinking you are wanting a Trunk service which would have been correct as it is only a business grade connection at present.

If you tell them it is VFX not DVX then there should be no issue, if there is ask them to refer it to me,  I may be able to sort it out Wink

Thanks Maverick, got it sorted this time.  I did originally specifically mention VFX and not DVX.

A different staff member from WxC called me back just as I was reading your post to state you do offer Asterisk support and took me through the signup process so great service :)
