Hi

I am using an Xnet PAP2T with locked down firmware.   I set up a static IP and disabled DHCP as suggested and set up a user password etc in the "System" tab at the top of the config page then hit Save Settings and it rebooted.    All is well till randomly I decide to access the PAP2T to see line status and theres user no password and all the static IP settings are disappeared.    These settings go away after a reboot?? Yell

I see you are a new VFX user (your recent post).  I am guessing that it is updating the firmware a few times.  I am not 100% sure, but I think it updates in stages (i.e. does each incremental update, not going straight from old version to latest version).  I believe updates happen in the early hours of the night, so simply check it every morning when you get up until the settings "stick".  Should not be more than a day or two.  If still not right, send a help desk e-mail.

How often do Xnet update firmware.  I tried as you suggested and for the past 3-4 days it was fine but suddenly last night the password was gone again.  The static ip and gateway settings were there - do these no get wiped by firmware update. Undecided

I have sent you an email on how to reset PAP2T with IP static address. You can get the details from Linksys US website as NZ website doesn't have the user manual. You can adjust via phone connected to PAP2T and some dial commands.

have fun

Send me your VFX number and I will take a look at your config, also can you send me what details you think are being overwritten.

Seems to have happened again last night.  Maverick I have pm'ed you my VFX number.  So that you know what I am talking about, I am attaching a screenshot.  You will notice that the User Password field is empty and it did not require me to type the password to get in my PAP2T.   I had previously set a password there and saved settings and for 2-3 days it was set and had to type user/mypassword to get into the PAP2T screen but it keeps mysteriously disappearing.   Also I notice when this happens Elapsed Time on the Info tab also resets.  It was showing 3 days there before now its back to 21hrs and 53 minutes and counting up.

In my first post I mentioned IP settings disappering but this is no longer the case but my password disappears still, I would like it to stick if possible to stop anyone from messing about.

Ahh, I have found the culprit.  It seems that when I turn off PAP2T and turn it back on it loses the user password.  How stupid is that. :S   Power might have gotten cut or something or maybe it reboots randomly after 2-3 days?  Does Xnet really update firmware which forces reboot this frequently?

It will be the user password setting being overwritten, we will adjust this tomorrow on your config

Updates so frequently?  No.  Only the first time you connect to the VFX server.

Looses config from power cuts?  I suspect it is an old or faulty unit and the battery needs replacement (if it has one internally) or the EEPROM which saves the settings is faulty.

It does not have to be only power cuts, even simple spikes through the mains (light during lightning or when an aircon turns on) can be enough to cause it to reboot.  Same goes for modems.  My modem is on a UPS and sometimes it reboots when the UPS switches from mains to battery power.  This can be fixed by adding a capacitor inside the modem, but you need the skills to do it properly.

Neil,  The unit is brand new purchased less than a month ago.  Maverick if your fix would solve user password loss during reboots that would be great, thanks.

Ah I now realised why you guys keep this setting this way.  Theres no reset switch on the unit is there? So I take my unit off and connect to another network with a different gateway then it just wouldn't work if i leave DHCP off and a static IP entered.. :S  Is this correct?

Brand new does not mean it was manufactured today.  Stock is shipped by sea which takes 2 months, then it sits on the shelf until sold.  But Maverick knows more about the configs and sounds like he is on to it.

All devices "phone home" every 48 hours or so to check for any updates be this config changes or firmware upgrades, part of the changes we did the other day with the new portal was to cutover to a new intergrated backend provisioning system (all part of the master plan) , Now the configs are generated automatically from this new system, In this case there a few units thats PAP2T's that  have the user password unlocked but would be overwritten when the config is checked, This is being adjusted now so should be no issue, a restart now will not change your user password hpj2007
