Hi all,

a reminder that this is due to kick off tomorrow, and should be finished by Sunday.

Vodafone to upgrade mobile systems during holiday period – Prepay customers encouraged to Top Up early   Early next year (from 10pm Friday 8th January to 10am Sunday 10th January 2016), Vodafone will be upgrading our mobile billing platform to improve Vodafone’s mobile billing, payment and account services, streamlining the experience for customers.   This is a necessary upgrade and has been scheduled for a period that is expected to have minimal impact on mobile customers. There’s never a great time for back-end services to be down, but the summer holidays are the best opportunity we have to conduct this work.   During the upgrade period, customers will still be able to send and receive calls, TXT and voice messages.   The following services will be affected:

  • Credit card Top Ups;
  • Check their balance via TXT;
  • Change mobile plans;
  • Move from Prepay to an On Account plan;
  • Transfer their number to a new SIM card;
  • Purchase Prepay Add-Ons; and
  • My Vodafone (App and Desktop).

We encourage all customers to check their account status before Friday 8 January 2016 and conduct any transactions as early as possible. This includes purchasing Top Ups or data bundles and paying invoices.   Customers who have put in place an automatic Top Up that is scheduled to occur during this period will receive a message advising them to Top Up early.   To ensure as many Vodafone customers as possible are aware of the upgrade, and the reduced services available to them, information will be posted on the following channels before and during the upgrade period:

  • Facebook;
  • Vodafone website;
  • Vodafone Community (http://community.vodafone.co.nz/);
  • Phone messaging on 777 and 888; and
  • My Vodafone (App and Desktop).

We apologise for any disruption this upgrade may cause to customers.

Thank you.

So you're going to see lots of bitching on Vodafone's FB page about topups not working  despite people being warned..

If it is so important for prepay customers to know about this downtime, why aren't you sending a TXT message to all prepay customers about it? The first I've seen or heard about this is today on Geekzone. Surely if you were truly wanting to "ensure as many Vodafone customers as possible are aware of the upgrade" you would of sent a mass TXT message to all potentially affected customers days ago, and another today, warning of this?

Also, I've just checked the My Vodafone android app, no mention of this at all.

Weird how the first I heard about this is via GZ - Marketing/business change dept should have came up with a simple spin, "1.5x/2x top up before 8th for prepay customers before our upgrade" to generate the word of mouth

At least with the stuff comment section we now know who shouldn't be voting or having kids.

I just went onto Facebook - someone whining that Vodafone should have text messaged customers. Really, don't people read the news, check out the Vodafone Facebook page occasionally? the post was made on 6 January - what do people do with their life, have a special 'internet day' they use the internet once a week or something?

Received this from Vodafone today:

"The scheduled upgrade of Vodafone’s mobile billing platform was completed over the weekend. All services have been restored and are fully functional. Thank you for your understanding during the upgrade period."
