I bought a Vodafone Smart Ultra in January. Great phone for the price. But I bought a case for it at the same time (I broke two cases on my previous phone), and a few days ago while lost out of town, I discovered the compass didn't work at all.

If I take the phone out of the case, the compass comes back to life but doesn't work, in that North might be anywhere. However a few compass recalibrations and it works. It seems to be the magnetic clasp on the case.

I used a case with my old GS3 that had a much stronger magnetic clasp and there was no trouble with the compass.

I'm disappointed that I've been sold a case that causes part of the phone to not work. Before I go back to the Vodafone store with this problem, does anyone have any comment?

Back in the 1980s the advice to commanders of AFVs was to get out and away from the vehicle to take an accurate compass bearing.

I went to the store and swapped the case to one without a clasp. Less protection, as it can flip open when I drop the phone, but it fits more easily in my shirt pocket.
