Installed the latest Security Update last night, and now I can't be authenticated at all, the Vodem disconnects, and I can't start the Vodafone software either. Anyone else have this happen? Getting the Vodem to work has always been touch and go: I get a consistent message every start-up that the peripheral is not recognised, but if I click "Ignore" it still works. Not any more though--just hangs on "Authenticating" and then disconnects. FYI, I'm still on Tiger.

I only see 2.07.03 on the Vodafone page, updated Feb 07, so I assume that's what I have (I'm at work PC right now). Is there something more recent available? That might at least allow me to activate the vodem via the software.

Thanks!

So it does. Thanks for that. Will give it a try later.

Update: Unfortunately, it's not good.

VCMLite 2.8 software still doesn't open with OSX 10.4.9; neither does what looks like a version 3.x update that was kindly pointed out to me

I did firmware and software updates of the modem on a PC, and can't even get it to work in Windows 2000; the software is fine, of course, but the modem won't connect, the error message only says that it can't connect to the remote computer and will close the port.

I'm going to try it tonight on the Mac with the updated firmware, but am not holding out much hope. Will also try vodafone support over the weekend, but they rarely seem to be up to the minute on Mac-related issues.

This may spell the end of my Apple/Vodem relationship...and I was so hoping to never have to get a fixed line...

If you are getting that error message make sure the connection is not barred!

Are you by any chance using a prepay SIM?

No, not on pre-pay, and I tried the vodem on two non-firewalled PCs and now it's not even recognised at all, so I can't try and revert the firmware to an earlier version.

When I attach the vodem to the Mac, it shows up on the desktop as a CD!

If I can't get it recognized by the firmware update wizard on the PC, then I can't do anything with it.

Is there any way to hard reboot it, or get it to default to "factory" settings?

It will not be related to the firmware update!

So no matter what computer Vodem goes in MAC or PC the device is not recognised!

On the PC did you remove all old Vodafone software before plugging the Vodem back in?

Update, with good(ish) news:

The next time I tried it on the PC, it worked. So I called Vodafone tech support and they were pretty helpful, even though their Mac guy wasn't there. Kudos to them for that. Bottom line: after it started working on the PC, I put it back on the Mac, and even though the software won't start, this time the vodem connected. It may be that since I can't "uninstall" 2.07, I can't can't get 2.08 to load completely, which is why it wouldn't still work. The Mac guy is supposed to ring me and I'll try and get him to walk me through where all the bits and pieces of the software load themselves and hopefully start with a clean install.

And, yes, Johnr is completely right. The firmware was not the problem--Vodafone confirmed that. So still not sure what happened, but at least I'm on line.

Really appreciate the responses. This is a GREAT resource. (Wish I was smart enough to help someone else in return, LOL)
