was looking at chorus maps and vodafone site

 

the both say i can get vdsl now installed

 

but i think they might be wrong

 

i live about 1km- 1.5k from the exchange 
(edit check distance with google maps gps)

 

heres my adsl 2 + stats

i believe you are entitled to roll back if its not better than your current speeds

 

but if you are indeed only 5-800m away your ADSL stats are pretty poor so you might have a wiring issue there causing the poor connection

 

a master filter/tidy up of your house wiring may help

if thats the case then VDSL probably wont offer you anything better

 

can always ask your ISP for a prequal though to get an indication of your attenuation and expected speeds

The cable to you may not take the route you think it does which may put it into VDSL distances of approx 900m or less.

Your downstream attenuation of 25dB suggests a line length of 1800m*, and a predicted VDSL maximum speed of 18 Mbps.

 

EDIT:  * line length is usually greater than distance "as the crow flies".

thanks for the info guys 

 

on the old version chorus map i was just on the borderline to get vdsl if i lived a few street down i would get it

 

i dont know why chorus maps says i can now

because they increased the range for VDSL due to the upgrade to the 998 band plan. this increased the maximum allowable attenuation to 15dB
