I am currently on Telecom prepaid and will soon be moving to Vodafone prepaid, I understand currently that you cannot keep your number when moving to vodafone prepaid. As i read here in another post, this is changing by April 1st although I was querying the shop assistants about this and unsurprisingly vodafone have told them nothing about it so they had no idea what i was talking about and kept trying to convince me to go on a plan.

I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about the technicalities of changing phone numbers on vodafone sim cards. Ie if i was to purchase a connection pack now with a new vodafone number would i then be able to change it to my old telecom number when they allow it in a months time. Or do they program the sim cards when you buy them and then they cannot be changed?
Any help appreciated.

They'll just give you another SIM - presumably free of charge, but who knows. If you're worried about losing contacts/data, they'll copy that over to the new SIM for you. Existing connection packs are sold with numbers already allocated - though they'll have to change this method come April 1st I guess.

edit: oh, and welcome to GZ :)

Your mobile number is not stored on the SIM. I am not sure but i would say they will issue you with a new sim if you want to port in another provitders number. If you do get a new sim just make sure your contacts are saved to the phone memory.

And make sure you do not disconnect or cancel your Telecom number before Vodafone can actually do the porting. If you disconnect or cancel it then you lose the number and there's no coming back.
