Hi all,

I've been doing some research into Vodafone and UFB TV. It seems as though Vodafone used to offer TV over UFB but no longer does? As far as I can tell from their website, they offer Sky over HFC or Vodafone broadband + satellite Sky. Am I missing something or has the service been discontinued?

Cheers

Full range of TV, including SKY channels, over Fibre via Vodafone TV.

As far as I know you can only get Sky\Vodafone TV over the cable network.

Happy to be proven otherwise

You can definitely get it over fibre; my boss has it in Whakatane, where there is no cable.

Ordered and installed vodafone Tv over UFB about 2 months ago. Very happy with the product and finding it excellent. Saving $70 per month is awesome as well.

That must be new, because they were using the T-BOX + UFB not long ago

Is this for real?
I have got ADSL and Sky via satellite , both through Vodafone.
The only reason I have not moved to Fibre is because VF tells me I have to drop Sky for Vodafone TV, as satellite Sky is not offered with a fibre plan.
Has there been a change?

Thanks for the info - although I'm still a bit confused! As far as I can tell, TV over UFB was launched in 2013 when Vodafone launched its UFB products, and was still available in 2014. But I can't find any reference to it after that.

The Vodafone website is a bit ambiguous, but my reading is that you can either get broadband (ADSL, VDSL, UFB) + satellite sky, or you can get Vodafone TV (via HFC) bundled with HFC broadband.

That is interesting.  I would have thought one of the major highlights for the Sky/Vodafone merger would have been to leverage the ability to deliver digital TV over UFB.  Is Vodafone really not offering TV over UFB any longer?

The page you mentioned includes cable.

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/tv/ quotes "Only works with Cable" in the Vodafone TV section on the right.  So given that and Mike's correction it seems they are no longer offering Vodafone TV over UFB (non-cable).

My guess is that they used to offer the TV over UFB service but at some point realised that it wasn't worth investing in the product given they could just bundle a satellite subscription. UFB TV would just cannibalise Sky satellite subs which they could get cheaply through their partnership anyway...

Now that they are planning to merge, I imagine they will invest in the product and transition customers over to UFB TV. And in the long term reduce satellite transmission capacity or shut it off altogether.

Scary. As mentioned above I moved to just what this person is asking for Sky TV via Vodafone UFB less than 2 months ago and I am really happy with it. Was still there a few weeks ago as I used the one I quoted above to work out things for a friend also looking at moving. Guess they wont be able to now. This change must be rather recent.

Its still there, works over UFB, and offers either Freeview or Sky
