Does anyone know why Xnet's webmail is not https like most other webmail systems ?

Having my userid, password etc encrypted I would have though would be almost industry standard. I don't know what platforms WxC use but changing the webmail to be https from http I would have thought is not a big job...

Yes its especially important when accessing it from a non-xnet connection.  With an xnet connection all data goes through their servers first anyway so your password is not likely to be snooped on unless someone from telecom is doing it.

By why use xnet webmail and run into troubles when you leave them to another isp or overseas..  most people I know use gmail or something.

I do have a free webmail account but don't use it for my primary email as I don't like the idea of google, yahoo etc holding my data that withstanding Xnet should have secure webmail

The new viewbill is secure.  Why do you need webmail to be secure when your POP3 mail is not?  TradeMe is not secure at all, and Movieshack is only secure when you log in and after that it is not.

certain areas of trademe are secure manily the billing parts where you put in your credit card

Niel is correct... Worry about webmail, but don't worry about POP3?

Yes I also asked them when I joined 1 year ago and they said it required something to be done to a server...I find it disappointing nothing has changed

I don't use and refuse to use POP3 over the Net for a number of reasons including security

Bottom line is that when I send my userid and password over the Net I expect it to be secure. Very few webmail apps now exist that do not use https for at least a secure login

I agree with you in principal, but the reality is that many people divorce and many people drink themselves silly.  Does that mean you and I have to do that as well?  A lot of internet security is out of fear, you can see no one on the other side of the internet connection, but reality is that who wants to see my e-mails?  I am a South African Kiwi who knows a lot about security, but what is the chance of someone wanting to use my e-mail address except if I am involved in criminal activities?

I treat my email login[s] no different to any other login I use e.g the one that I use for Internet Banking, would you expect a Bank to use non secure logins because the risk is low ?

There is a reason why most web apps whether webmail or Banking etc et al use a secure login. I value not just my email address but more importantly the content of my email, you would be surprised what could be done or found out from?email content

The bottom line is that WxC should follow best practise which clearly they are not. I find it astonishing that they treat paying customers security so lightly

I suspect WxC would [hopefully] agree with me, it just a matter of resource priorities but prioritise it they should !
