Hi,

I run a rudimentary IMAP server on one of the boxes at home, which collects up and consolidates the family's various email accounts into one place.  We access the server on various devices from both inside the LAN and from the Internet when out and about.  Previously, the routers I've used have allowed us to set the server address on client devices as the Internet facing IP, and we've been able to access this on devices from inside the LAN.  The HG659 does not appear to allow this.

Is there a setting I can change to allow this?  Or is it possible to set up the HG659 as a transparent pass through of the WAN interface to another router?

If anyone can assist, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers

Matt

You need a router that supports hairpin NAT. Doubt that the Vodafone router would support it. As it is only needed if you are hosting a server on your connection. Consider getting a Ubiquity Edge Router or Mikrotic Router Board. They both support hairpin Nat.

Thanks for the advice.  Slightly presumptuous, but are you able to point me at a particular model that supports chorus fibre and hairpin NAT?

Cheers

Matt

Every Edgerouter and Mikrotik router will support UFB. There is a steep learning curve to use both if you know nothing about networking.

Thanks. Think that might be step too far undecided
