Trying to download a 100mb file from https://obsproject.com and its going to take 5 hours using Vodafone Cable in Woodridge, Wellington. Its the OBS Studio if anyone else could try? Some youtube videos default to 480p and still buffer while most "Trending" videos run at the highest resolution, I am assuming those ones are cached locally. I have done the basic troubleshooting, restarts of modem and devices etc, wifi, direct to modem. I have tried Vodafone DNS and Google DNS servers. I have logged a ticket with Vodafone, but we all know trying to convince them there is a issue is the hard part!

UPDATE - Steam is slow also, ranging from a max of 6Mbps to average of around 3 using the NZ servers. I normally get a constant 12Mbps.

This is from Auckland -

Next is Wellington (where I live)

and Christchurch -

~15 seconds on work's connection, so it's not the remote side.

~20 seconds on Vodafone Cable from Kapiti.. so not a systemwide Vodafone issue.

I'm just down the road in Johnsonville, and suspect we are the having the same issue. I'm on 100Mb/s cable for reference.

I'm currently downloading https://github.com/jp9000/obs-studio/releases/download/0.15.1/obs-0.15.1-installer.dmg from https://obsproject.com, and it's going at 20KB/s with an hour remaining.

I've been similarly getting very slow download speeds from servers which are normally very fast. For example the UC Canterbury Linux mirror – which is normally screamingly fast – this 1.4GB Ubuntu ISO (http://ucmirror.canterbury.ac.nz/linux/ubuntu/xenial/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso) is hovering between 150 and 200 KB/s. Downloads from https://repo.continuum.io/pkgs/ are running at about 20KB/s as well.

On the other hand, Steam seems to be going full speed (10-14MB/s).

I've run a bunch tests on speedtest.net to servers around the country, and have been getting a mixed bag of results. I tested all servers in Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland. With the exception of WorldNet in Auckland which was 81Mb/s, they were either the full speed of my connection (~125Mb/s) or between 3 and 6 Mb/s. Below are the results, run between 10:22 and 10:36 this morning, via a direct connection to the cable modem.

  • 127.03 Mb/s - Wellington, Vodafone NZ
  • 126.28 Mb/s - Wellington, Spark
  • 125.36 Mb/s - Wellington, CityLink
  • 127.05 Mb/s - Wellington, ACS Data
  • 127.11 Mb/s - Auckland, Spark
  • 6.02 Mb/s - Auckland, 2 Degrees
  • 81.04 Mb/s - Auckland, WorldNet
  • 5.92 Mb/s - Auckland, CallPlus
  • 5.58 Mb/s - Auckland, MyRepublic
  • 7.29 Mb/s - Christchurch, Vodafone NZ
  • 4.99 Mb/s - Christchurch, 2 Degrees
  • 127.09 Mb/s - Christchurch, Spark
  • 3.72 Mb/s - Christchurch, CallPlus

I've been on the phone with Vodafone most of the morning, and the tech eventually came to the conclusion that they didn't know what was causing it. But because I'm getting the full speed to some places, they're seeing it as working fine and the slow speeds to other places are out of their control.

Edit: trying to get speedtest result formatting looking ok.

I've been having this issue since last year now but it got considerably worst a few weeks ago, Any international traffic at all is completely bogged. It has completely screwed playing overwatch I get a unstable ping of 250-400.

Is it normal for cable traffic to the US to hit Hong Kong first? I thought we had a connect line straight to the US west coast?
