I have recently got fusion and have had my two telecom numbers ported over. All is good. Now I plan to move house on the 22nd. How soon will I need to tell worldxchange of my moving plans. And how long would my internet/phones offline. Last time I moved i gave my providers a months’ notice and my broadband was down for three weeks (due to worldxchange and telecom miscommunication). It can’t happen this time. Remember I move in the middle of a long weekend. Anyone know?

I would apply for Fusion at your new address, make install date for day you move in, then just cancel one at the old address

Xnet have no contracts so all good

Here's an interesting comparison of 2 different ways to achieve the same thing:

1)  Get a new phone line connected at your new house BEFORE ditching your existing setup

-  New phone connection fee payable to Telecom $49
-  Sign up for Xnet Flood at new house
-  When you have an internet connection working, switch to Fusion @ $0

2)  Pay the Fusion "Moving House Fee" $85 and have NO internet for some indeterminate period

I know which way I would choose Tongue out

Hmmmm hadn't thought of that. I emailed WxC yesterday to advise them of my pending house move on the 27th. Here is the reply:

Hi Scott,

That's no problem, the more notice we have of your move the better.

I can get that booked with Telecom and will follow up with you when I have confirmed details :)

Regards,

###

I'm going to stick with that though and hope that all the planets fall into alignment at the right time, saves me having to muck around with Telecom again.

Fingers crossed . . .

Why not get fusion at the new address on the same account.
Take your ATA/Router to your new address.
Transfer your numbers to your new fusion.
Cancel your old fusion.

Hmmmm

Thanks for providing another solution . . .

Time = money, all that = time :-)

A few days without ADSL isn't going to kill me and VFX can be forwarded to my cellphone if need be.

Fingers still crossed though :-)

I think you will find getting n-dsl hooked up at new address is quicker than getting land-line, followed by dsl connection. There is simply less to be done with a new n-dsl connection.

Yes, this is no doubt true, but option (1) guarantees no downtime.

Also, I am intrigued that option (1) is cheaper, even though there are several more steps to the process.  Obviously WxC is paying the churn fees etc, but $85 in the case of option (2) does seem a lot to pay.

hpj2007: What about $42 for first month of telephone.

When I disconnected my physical lines during the process of moving to VoIP around this time last year, Telecom credited me for the partial month already billed during which I no longer had the service.  So I got back most of the month's charges.

However, when you sign up for a new line, I'm not sure if that policy applies.  There may be a minimum one month's charge on top of the $49 connection fee, in which case it would be cheaper just to pay the $85 fee to move address and retain Fusion.  You are probably looking at some downtime though, which was my reason for suggesting the other approach.

Not quite true, there will be a few hours downtime later on when dsl goes to n-dsl. Where as if n-dsl is already on when you move (and have a small overlap from you old house), then there is no downtime (except when transporting you VFX box between old & new place).

This is more a loophole / WxC being very nice. There is always a $99 connect fee for new connections, but WxC waiver that and don't lock you into a contract. Most other ISP's will charge this $99 when you move house; however many people will get around this by "disconnecting from current ISP (if out of their contract)" then connecting as new at their new place. Basically like your option 1.
