I am on the 10Mbs/20G plan. But download speeds tonight are way slow. Just look at this

Yes no errors noted by TCL web site and I can't get through to customer support.

3.3k down and 1.6k up for me.
Seems ok but torrent downloading is crawling.
Either that's been throttled, or my downloading is being balanced to the upload by the torrent package.

I'm in Wellington, on the TCL Paradise 20Gb 10mbps plan......and it's currently running extremely slow. The performance has been bad tonight and for the past couple of days.

My Speedtest.net results range from 400 to 600 kbps (Down) and 315 (Up), which is a fraction of what I pay for. When I watch a network monitor on my MAC, it seems to delay when talking to the Paradise directory service (rachel.paradise.net). I tried the secondary server (Kirsty) and got the same terrible performance.

The TCL website specifies that there are not known internet issues as at 8pm tonight (12 Mar 08). I see another poster has better performance right now, so it may be geographical? Would be interested to hear if other people in Wellington have poor performance.

EDIT: I am in Khandallah. Previous poster is in nearby Johnsonville. Hmmmm.

Have noticed the same thing.  Trying to watch youtube was painful.  National speeds on speedtest were more or less normal, but internation is really slow.  Something like 300 kbps to LA.  Even Geekzone seems slow to load.  I am in Miramar, Wellington.

I don't trust speedtests but my "feeling": it's really slow. I tried Interent banking just after 8pm and 9pm and the pages would take a while to download. Even gmail is taking its time.

I've noticed very slow speeds in ChCh too, the following test results on 4Mb plan.

I've even found that some sites are failing to opening at all. :(

Hi, I'm on the 10 down/2 up 20GB data cap plan - on The Terrace in Wellington

I had Telstra cable installed a little over 2 weeks ago - the first morning when the tech tested the connection (from motorola cable modem straight through to my macbook via ethernet) I was getting 7-8 megabit down and 2 megabit up. As soon as I connected it to my Belkin wireless router i now get speeds of approx 800 kb/s down and the same 2 megabit up - this ain't great but after reading many posts here I've resigned myself to the fact that the cable-modem is super-sensitive to certain wireless routers - think I'll be getting a LinkSys soon : )

I don't blame Telstra for this as there supplied hardware works perfectly well with my setup via ethernet - just find it wierd (in a business sense) that with the prevalence of wireless computing, they don't advise you on compatible wireless routers or make an effort to 'sort this out' with consumers - I know they can't test every model of router but test and recommend a few - that would be a start!!

PS: Also find it funny that the same wireless router I'm having trouble with, Telstra have in their window in thier Courtenay Place showroom! Random disconnections are a pain too...

It was really slow for me too, my speed test came in about 1mbps down, 600k up (10mbps plan).  I noticed that a Windows Security update was downloading too.  Hit both of our machines.   I'm guessing that  eveyrone in Wellington was pulling it down, since performance didn't improve when they were finished downloading.

It seems to have improved a little this morning, but it was still slow.  Has anyone called TCL to find out what's going on?  I checked their web site, but it always, always shows green across the board.

Dont forget that with DOCSIS effectively all users on your nodes carrier have only around 50Mb/s to share. I dont know how many users per node TCL allow to maintain performance, but lets assume one node covers a fair portion of any suburb if not several so to have 30-40 users working hardish in your area soon brings things down to the 1-2Mb/s region.

I suspect most nodes are supporting more like 200odd users, also assumes each node is only one mux/carrier.

Absolute abysmal International performance last night. National was ok.

Youtube was unwatchable. And Facebook refused to load.

Here at work, we're on a Unisys feed which i think uses TCL bandwidth. Intl traffic was a bit sluggish this morning but appears to be ok now. Will see what its like when i get home.....

Might have been a temporary thing. I can understand international being up and down but speedtest was producing slow results for local sites. Just a quick check tonight has provided

Seems to be slow again for me tonight.  Speedtests are all over the place from 100kbps to 1000kbps.  Upload speeds are actually higher than download.

Anybody else having the same thing again?
