Just received:

Vodafone announced changes to its mobile data plans today, offering 50 per cent more data on its latest On Account plans, $59.99 and above.

Included in the changes is the introduction of a new open term plan. Customers can now binge, browse and burn through a whopping 15GB of data for $99 a month.

That’s enough data to upload 60,000 photos to social media, or watch YouTube videos solidly for three days.

“The uptake of smartphone technology and mobile data consumption is continuing to surge in New Zealand as kiwis spend more time running their businesses online, keeping in touch with their friends, or enjoying video entertainment,” said Vodafone Consumer Director Matt Williams.

“By dialling up the data allowance for our On Account customers, they can now spend more time than ever doing the things they love online,” Matt said.

Changes to open term plans are as follows:

  • Vodafone’s $59 plan will now include a 4GB data allowance, an increase from 2.5GB + 1GB bonus;
  • The $79 plan will now include a 7.5GB data allowance, an increase from 5GB + 1GB bonus; and
  • A new $99 plan provides 15GB data, along with unlimited MINS and TXT.

Changes to 24 Month contract plans are as follows:

  • Vodafone’s $99 plan will now include 7.5GB data, an increase from 5GB;
  • The $129 plan now includes 12.5GB, an increase from 7.5GB; and
  • Vodafone’s $149 plan now includes a massive 15GB of data, 5GB more than the previous plan.

Each plan offers customers unlimited personal calling and TXTs to standard New Zealand and Australian numbers, $5 daily roaming, and access to great entertainment, sports and music rewards through Fantastic Fridays. Eligibility criteria and terms apply.

You'd at least think they would have attempted to do something to compete with free Neon and Lightbox that Spark offer on their new plans.

I thought they were offering free access to one of those? Did they stop that?

I also see that the 'New Phone Every Year" option seems to have vanished from the Add Ons section...

I was wondering when VF would increase data cap allowances to match Sparks offerings. Any idea when these kick in?

Edit - About 5mins after posting this, I got a txt from VF saying my data cap has been increased.

Interesting. I get 2.5GB of data on my plan plus a 2GB bonus. So does that mean I would now have 6GB of data (as opposed to 4.5GB I get now)?

exactly this, i considered going on account at one point.

everything about the prepay plan im on works out better though, Except for maybe vodafone calling me every few months to check that i dont want to upgrade.

Every time i have those calls, the csr goes around in circles about how the onaccount plans are better..

the feature being the biggest to me personally, is rollover.

For me, what I need is something more like 2 Degrees where I can buy 12GB to use over 6 months.  Then buy the text and calling as a seperate package.
