Thought I would start a new thread, as this functionality is due via regulation by the start of April.

Has anybody got any information on whether VFNZ are on track with this, or heaven forbid, might deliver early?

I have been on corporate plans for years now, and am looking forward to switching to prepay VFNZ and keeping my 027 number.

Um i have "vfnz internet" connection on my phone....i can browse on it forever without taking credit, plug it up to the laptop and ive got free internet

ive left it on for a week straight and it doesnt take credit :D

As of two weeks ago the old "hack" of using Vodafone prepay for free data is gone. Vodafone New Zealand is now doing live billing.

So anyway, I have been told through unofficial channels that the porting onto prepaid is indeed on track.

Can anyone tell me what the process will be? (I.e. will I just be able to walk into First MObile or whatever and get it done at lunchtime on the 1st April ?)

Will I need to supply a SIM card, or will VFNZ supply one that hasnt been sold as a VFNZ prepaid one yet?

Will there be any costs to setup (including or excluding a SIM)?

I have my E51 here - what a brilliant phone. Set up on my WiFi, acting as a VoIP WiFi handset when in range at home on my VFX Asterisk box, Bluetooth to my Macbook, with SMS appearing on screen as a popup OSX (for read and reply), nice IMAP email client, 3G data modem setup for Macbook, and loads more. Isync works great, but I need to work out Applescripting to run isync automatically in conjunction with the OSX Proximity software.

Looking forward to using a decent handset without having to have a PDA!!

Please stop hijacking this thread. The thread is about porting a number into Vodafone NZ Prepay system. You need to go and start a thread about Prepay Data if thats what you want to discuss.

No more replies on this thread about Prepay data billing, workarounds or other.

I went into a First Mobile store in Hastings today, and asked about porting into Prepay. Heres the goss:

From tomorrow onwards, you can port your Telecom 027 number into prepay.
You can supply your own SIM, and the transaction/setup is zero cost.
You can buy a new SIM at the time at normal cost.

I can only assume that the 021 number on whatever SIM gets used becomes disconnected.

I will be doing this tomorrow, and will let you know about my experience.

What happens if i buy a sim card off the net to take advantage of the 6 months free best mate and $40 topup for $40 in total. Will it give me an option to tell it my old telecom number or will i have to wait till it arrives then take it into a shop and change it over?

You will have to take it to a store to complete the physical porting.

I wonder if existing credit remains on a SIM if a ported number is added to it?

I also wonder if I lose my PUK code and my SIM gets locked, can I move my Prepay Voda 027 number to another SIM? I suppose worse case I could port back to Telecom and back again?

Port IN will be to a new prepay account! so new SIM!

If PUK code required this can be requested from customer service! (after ID process) new SIM not required.

If SIM is locked (pass PUK) A new SIM can be activated in seconds in store against the number!

Check this out the vodafone number portability faq's have been updated:

QUESTION: Where can I find my existing account number or Prepay Handset serial number when porting via the Vodafone Online Shop?

Prepay Customers

Prepay customers must enter the phone's serial number when completing their order.

The serial number is located on a sticker on the back of the mobile behind the battery. Some handsets have more than one serial number, we are interested in the 11 digit numeric number only.

You must be authorised to request the port of the mobile number to the new Vodafone connection you are purchasing.

This seems to suggest it is possible to port into vodafone prepaid via the internet if you have the details of the phones.

I went in to get ported today, and was informed that the porting system was down, had been since start of day, and not likely to be back up before end of day.

In addition, their user logins for the Vodafone dealer/staff portal were also down, in a seperate issue, and apparently this meant even if porting came back up, they would have no access to do anything with it.

That was at First Mobile Hastings.
The staff were very courteous and apologetic - so no gripes there.

So it looks like Vodafone, by doing a 'Telecom' and meeting the bare minimum asked of them, instead of launching this earlier, have now missed the ComCom deadline for inward porting of prepaid.

I hope its up by end of day - I really want to get up and running on my regular number.
