I recently signed my parents up for VDSL, hoping to get better speeds but only getting 10mbps down, ADSL was a few mbps higher.

The Chorus website says:

Our technician will rewire from the external termination point, where our network is connected from the road to your property, and install a new jack point and master splitter inside your house. Once installed, we’ll connect your new modem to the jack point and our technician will check the broadband connection to determine the upload and download speeds.

This was never done, how much of an impact would this have on the speeds we're seeing?

I've contacted Vodafone who said the house is too far away from the exchange, but wanted to validate whether pursuing a master splitter could have a positive effect?

Router stats are currently:

  • DSL synchronization status: Up
  • Connection status: Showtime
  • Upstream line rate (kbit/s): 1065
  • Downstream line rate (kbit/s): 11688
  • Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s): 1072
  • Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s): 11795
  • Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 12.5
  • Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 12.4
  • Upstream interleave depth: 0
  • Downstream interleave depth: 0
  • Line standard: VDSL
  • Upstream line attenuation (dB): 13.4
  • Downstream line attenuation (dB): 27.1
  • Upstream output power (dBmV): 10.5
  • Downstream output power (dBmV): 18.3
  • Downstream interleave depth: None

Appreciate any advice smile

Looks like that area is exchange feed, so you were probably on Vodafone equipment at exchange before change. This has a lower SNR, thus usually pushes ADSL speed a bit higher than Chorus ADSL. This would be part of the explanation for drop in line speed. Looks like you are on the edge of VDSL coverage, but still think with a master filter installed there is a reasonable chance of getting a bit higher.

go for the filter installation, end of the day worse case your adsl will preform at its peak.
