Just received:

Imagine if you could create a mobile plan perfectly suited to your needs, with bundles of data, TXT and minutes that you could change to fit your lifestyle as often as you top up.

Launched today, Vodafone’s My Flex Prepay gives Kiwis the freedom to do just that.

Customers can dial up or down the amount of data, TXT and minutes on their Prepay plan, depending on how they like to keep in touch with their friends and family or what’s going on in their lives.

The move to a fully flexible Prepay plan puts customers into the driver’s seat to manage their mobile use and spending.

Vodafone Consumer Director Matt Williams says My Flex Prepay is based on exactly what customers have asked for – a plan they can design, personalise and control themselves.

“We don’t all fit into a neat and tidy box when it comes to how we use our phones. Some of us prefer to TXT rather than call, while others spend most of their phone time using apps like YouTube, Snapchat, Viber and Facebook Messenger.

“With My Flex Prepay, your phone plan can be tailor-made to match your needs. And most importantly, it can be adjusted with a simple swipe of a button if those needs change,” Matt said.

Using MyVodafone (the Vodafone mobile app), customers can easily change  the individual amounts of TXT, minutes and data on their plan, or choose from pre-set favourite combos offering some of the best-ever value available on Prepay.

“Kiwis are telling us that when it comes to their phone plans, value and flexibility are most important to them. Not everyone wants to be locked in to a traditional mobile plan, and that called for a whole new look at how we structured our Prepay offering,” Matt said.

“We tested the water with Vodafone Mates, our first fully flexible Prepay plan which launched in August this year. Mates has been received really strongly and we are excited about building on this and offering a flexible plan with more data and minutes than ever before[i].

“My Flex Prepay gives all customers the freedom to pay for what they want, and less of what they don’t,” added Matt.

My Flex Prepay details

  • Vodafone My Flex Prepay includes a total of 216 combinations of data, minutes and TXT to suit all budgets ranging from $11 to $47 for up to 3.5GB, 500mins and unlimited TXT
  • Customers also have the choice of two pre-set configurations including:
  • A Kiwi Favourite $19: 250MB  and 50 mins more than the Carry Over $19 plan
  • Big Data Bundle $28: 500MB more than the Carry Over $29 plan
  • All My Flex Prepay combinations and the favourite combos sit conveniently on one SIM.
  • If customers sign up before January 31 2017, they have the opportunity to receive launch pricing for the life of their plan.

The Vodafone website link doesn't work, and searching for "MyFlex" using their search returns nothing.

I just changed my wife from Vodafone to Skinny a week ago. Vodafone were charging double what Skinny charge, for a lesser plan.

Sounds good. I've been using the $19 carryover plan and find that spending up to an hour a day on trains/buses the 500MB of data only tends to last me half the month. Then I end up waiting for their Friday deals to see if I can get some more cheap, or sometimes even free (this week one of my deals was 1000MB for $0 lasting a week). Whereas I have about 1000 minutes carried over because I don’t make a lot of calls. Been hoping for a Prepay option where I could get more data and less minutes for about the same price so interested to see what I can get with this, though the link doesn’t seem to work yet. I wonder if we would get to keep what we have carried over, since we have paid for it, or if switching plans means you lose it all.

Why do you need a plan at all?

If I'm understanding correctly, then the $19 "Kiwi Favourite" plan offers 750 MB and 150 minutes. Why not just charge a "casual" rate of, say, 1.6c/MB and 4.6c/min (I've just plucked these figures out of nowhere) to total around $19 without the hassle of adjusting your plan to match your actual usage?

Having 216 distinct plan combinations just sounds like madness to me.

Appears to be called Vodafone Mates on the website rather than Flex as in the press release which I think is why the links were not working. Sounds like you need a new Sim to get it, surely you should be able to change to it with your existing sim shouldn't you?

No, it is not mates. I am told they have some stuff to update on the page before setting it live.

Interesting new plans, might tinker with these at some point.

Nice to see carryover is included, Although not as high as the Prepaycarryover goes

Sounds like with switching we would lose anything we currently have with a carryover combo. Seems a bit unfair to take away something we have paid for doesn't it?

Website is now live with the pricing/plan builder. If you were going for maximum data then for the equivalent of the existing $19 carry over plan you can get 50mins, 50 txts and 1.25GB of data vs  100 mins, unlimited txts and 500MB of data.

Pricing is not "even". Going from 250 to 750 MB costs $2 but 750 to 1.25 costs $4. Also there is no 500MB or 1GB level. A bit weird to me, really. Edit:Plans also now renew every 28 days vs 30.

Will probably eventually migrate to this as it is better value for data than my current carry over 19, which is what I mostly care about. 50 mins and txts is plenty for me. Will wind down my existing carry over data over the summer.

Just discovered this, speaking to Vodafone currently as had signed parents up to Mates Prepay and just discovered mothers has disappeared 11 days into plan. I am feeling like I am going in circles talking to them.

The differences compared to Mates seem to be on Rollover. Mates has max of 300 Min 3 GB, My Flex has 500 min 3.5GB.

It also looks like they have changed the data amounts for Mates to, aligning it with My Flex.

Their Big Data Bundle $28 is $1 cheaper than the Prepay Carry Over $29, has more data, but the one caveat I have noticed is that the old Plans are 30 days they new My Flex are 4 weeks.

Oh great. Yet more complicated ways to buy mobile. Why can't they just keep things simple? (That was a retorical question. I know the answer - marketing by confusion)
