I have this set up ONT, Netgear R7000, HG659. I have the HG659 set up as ata only. I can receive calls on the landline but wont connect when I dial a number. I get a dial tone but get the engage sound after the number has dialed. I checked the call log and says it made the call. I'm stumped as to what else I can do. It seems like everything is all set up.

Also the HG659 gets an IP address of 192.168.3.1 when the R7000 is set up as 192.168.1.1. I tried to manually assign LAN IP to 192.168.1.3 on the HG659 but kept changing back to 192.168.3.1.

Any help would be much appreciated.

ARe you using the admin account to login to the router (not the vodafone/vodafone account)

Alternatively you can use your own voip gear. Vodafone wont give you the SIP details but its fairly easy to get them yourself from the HG659 :)

Also what port are you using for the HG659 -> R7000

I'm assuming you are using the WAN port so you are getting double NAT which might be causing some of your issues.

Logged in as admin and followed instructions on this site to set it as ata only but still couldnt make calls on the landline. I ended up returning it and getting an Asus RT88U, plugged it into the ont with the HG659 behind it and worked a treat. It must be a netgear problem maybe. The Asus didnt change the HG659 ip address. It kept it at what I set it at. Very strange.

Makes a world of difference having way more control and better wifi range which iswhat I was after.

So are you connecting to HG659 via its LAN or WAN port?

I can't get the VOIP to work if I'm using a LAN port as no default gateway can be defined without creating a WAN link.

Just plug the WAN port of the HG659 into the LAN port on your third party router. It will work straight off the bat. Only issue you will face is double nat.
