Just a hint: you may wish to search these forums, quite a few people are experiencing speed issues with WorldxChange broadband.

If you are in Halswell CHCH, most likely your distance is between ~ 2.5 - 4 km from the  exchange

check your  modem for line attenuation?  greter 40db ?

If it is don't expect downstram speed improvement!

thanks moddy - afterwards when browsing i actually DID see the super long thread about international speeds being poor and i will hold off for the moment ... xtra may be expensive but can't fault service and realiability - 1st class

You may wish to try Snap - there's no minimum term with them when you transfer from another ISP (Xtra in your case). Just bear in mind that if you take any of their modem during signup, you will be bonded to a contract - otherwise, if you do not, there's no term.

I'm on their Snap Pro plan and I'm happy I made the switch from Xnet. International performance improved drastically, plus Snap is now among the few that do not use Asianetcom as their international bandwidth provider which should guarantee less latency spikes.
