Hiyas,

just having odd issue at work..... we have multiple sites around the country which all run on DSL from various ISPs... theyre all fine except one in Rotorua.
They run on Orcon DSL, we (IT dept) run on TC Fibre. We can trace to all our Orcon sites without any issue, but when tracing Rotorua, we notice it gets routed over to Sydney, then back. But none of the others do, they stay "internal" to NZ.

Any ideas why just this one connection is getting bounced around ?

Havent spoken with TC yet, will be at some point this afternoon but thought Id throw it into the open and see if anyone has any ideas. :)

What ASN is the IP address range assigned to the Rot site?? Perhaps it is an outdated BGP route for that subnet from Orcon.

Are there other sites that you use that are also on Orcon that you have this problem with... to me it would sound like an Orcon issue rather than a TCL issue.

Have you tried dialup to Paradise/Other ISP's and see where it traceroutes via?

Looks like you could be right, TC are looking it as well as Orcon now... pretty sure between them it will be sorted ;)

Thanks

Turns out it is TC....   they route some stuff via Sydney occasionally.
Weird how it only affects one of our sites... oh well, not causing any issues that Im aware of so will leave be. :)

They route via Los Angeles when I'm connecting to a machine < 1km away in Wellington....  but that's a well-known gripe.
