Hi

I have combed the forums, but forgive me if I have missed this.

I cannot get my HG659 to port forward, despite the latest firmware and following instructions to the letter.  I need a reliable router that works with Vodafone fibre.  We need a landline, we are both doctors and need the redundancy for on-call.

Can I buy a robust standalone solution that has VLAN tagging and allows the landline phone to plug in?   Or do I need to plug a router into the LAN of the HG659 and somehow turn it into a 'dumb forwarder'?

DHCP is being done by my Server 2012 R2 install, not the router.

Any advice for getting port forwarding to work or an alternative hardware solution welcomed.

Regards Ivan

I don't have access to a Vodafone UFB connection so can't test, but you could likely use an alternate router (which supports VLAN tagging) to terminate your connection, and run the Vodafone HG659 behind it as an ATA. You'd need to get into the advanced settings to remove the VLAN tagging from its WAN connection, then plug the WAN port on the HG659 into a LAN port on your other router.

Hi

There does not appear to be the ability to do any advanced setting in the Huiwei.  I have a Linksys wrt1900ac which I could use but I cant afford to drop the phone.  If the huiwei HG659 was attached to a lan port of a router that already had a connection with the ONT which would control the connection?

You'll need to log into the HG659 with the admin account. vodafone/vodafone doesn't give full access. More info here.

The router connected to the ONT would control the internet connection.
