Its being about a year since I have needed to send an email via their smtp server, I am on a non ihug connection.

Anyway, back then it supported smtp auth, now, my password is just being rejected. Same one I use on the pop server ok.

Cant find anything on the useless vodafone site about it. So is it still supported?

Yes, still works.  Just now I whipped up a small .net app to test, one of the headers from the email I received:
Received: from X-X-X-X.adsl.xtra.co.nz (HELO Nate) ([0.0.0.0]) by smtp.mailfilter1.ihug.co.nz with ESMTP; 30 May 2008 17:56:23 +1200
