Okay, so I'm feeling a little disgruntled at being told I may have to wait "up til the end of the year" to be migrated across to Vodafone/Ihug's new ADSL2+ platform, given I'm a long-standing customer of theirs, whereas new customers are being provisioned automatically.

What gives?

I worked at Xtra during our massive migration process from 2Mbps -> Full speed, but even that was a maximum of 1 month, maybe 2 for some customers.

But a possibility of a 6 month wait? It's almost insulting...

Any official word on these timeframes? I know a lot of CSRs are fed misinformation, or aren't properly informed, so it'd be appreciated if someone in the know could shed some light on all this?

If thats the case, then its a shocker.

As posted on the 'vodfone red network' thread, could it be that Voda are holding off with this process to eliminate us taking advantage of the $30 monthly discount on there broadband?

Why can new customers sign up as normal and we (yep, the people giving them the money month after month for years) have to wait?

Whats the explaination for that??

If this is 100% the case, im going to change to Orcon and stuff Vodafone......Orcon unbundles my exchange in 2 weeks anyway.

Disgrace.

I would too but for some inexplicable reason Orcon can't handle faxability, and Mum uses the fax heaps for work. Stupid ><

Hi Again,

So I finally manged to talk to Vodafone.

There sales rep told me that all customers that are in the red network zone are being migrated automatically and in bulk.

When I asked if she had any idea of when this will happen, she said hmm....probably in ONE MONTH.

You will get sent out a letter though to advise you that your being upgraded, this letter should come about a month in advance.

So fingers crossed that info was correct and we'll all be upgraded soonish.

On that point though.....why do new customers get an adsl2+ modem for free and we get jack?

If i signed up for a new 12 month contract, would I get a free modem?

Also, just thinking about it....does that also mean that I will never be eligable for the $30 discount per month they have running till the end of the year??

If that is true then i am not happy!

I am currently on pack 3 (90 dollars a month for phone and unlimited data usage with max up and down). if i get moved to a new red account for the same monthly cost i will be on the ultimate pack?

that means i get max up and down but a cap at 20gb? As i live a couple of kms from my exchange i probably wont see any direct speed increase so therefore, i assume, i will actually be worse off by moving to the new network.

I currently am a heavy data user and regularly (most months) go way over 20gb as i work from home with some big files.

If i wanted a more consistent speed and upload speed i would have paid the lower cost, got a cap and got one of the lower bundles when i signed up. I wanted the unlmited bundle exactly for the reason of no cap.

So i am going to be getting less for my money, and less value. Thats not fair.

I think i will be off and leave vodafone.

Please check carefully:

broadband 3 is only 20GB data allowance with a fair use restriction of 2GB/day, therefore is NOT unlimited.
broadband 3 is Max/128k speed, while Ultimate pack is Max/Max.

Hi,
my bad on the max upload speed, but there is no data cap, after 20gb you just get put down to a slower speed for the rest of the month. I dont mind the slower speed, as data transfer can run while i am in bed, its just the extra cost.

Is the new 20gb a cap or a limit on the new red network? or will i just get knocked down to a lower speed for the rest of the month. I dont want to get charged if i accidently go over.

Practically ALL providers have "unlimited" download then. All current plans offered by Vodafone have 64kbps restriction after you've blown all of your data.

We're migrating customers as fast as we, and Telecom Chorus, can physically do it. Given that we actually have to have someone in the exchange snipping wires and reattaching them, Chorus can do up to 50 a day per exchange.

That means existing customers can take quite a while to port across to the new network.

This is not ideal.

New customers do get an easier ride of it because they're not currently attached to the old network, so don't need to get the snip. This speeds things up.

That's as I understand it and before anyone leaps in with Of Cours You're Blaming Telecom You Rat %$$##@ and all the rest of it, I'm simply EXPLAINING the process. There's nothing Chorus can do to go any faster. There's nothing we can do to go any faster. If anything comes up that allows bulk migrations of all our customers, we'll be doing it because it makes sense to get you onto our network as quickly as possible.

Hope that helps. I realise a month's delay seems like an age in an era when you can sign up and be online and running immediately usually, but it's really beyond anyone's control.

so what does it mean when you put in your address and it comes back that although you are in the red network area you still cant recieve the new service.

It means that you're on a road-side cabinet that hangs of an exchange that is covered by the red network. Since there is still no determination regarding sub-loop unbundling from ComCom - the only service you can get is TCNZ wholesale.

You've got two things mixed up here - we're changing over individual customers to that time frame... the exchange timetable is dependent on Telecom's schedule for such things and we will have all of Auckland unbundled by October... so Glen Eden is sometime between now and then. Sorry, I don't have the schedule in front of me to give you any more accurate an indication.

Have you been to the site and put in your address to see if it's available now?

ah, sorry paul I didnt word that as well as I shouldve.

The Glen Eden exchange has been unbundled already.....I know this, as im in the red zone and can get adsl2+ now....with you guys, or Orcon as of next week.

So my question related to the migration of customers already in the red zone.....do you guys have a time table for that?

I assumed this would be done exchange by exchange (for those ones already unbundled).
