HI all.

my current resi broadband contract has come to term and VP are asking me to switch to the new Smart Connect - still unlimited broadband, but cheaper per month.

is this a slick move by them to change the T&Cs and start throttling or shaping my traffic?

or am i just paranoid?

i've had a dig into their documenation they sent, but it's pretty light on details.

cheers in advanced for any help given.

P

Presumably there's a 12 month contract term that goes along with it.

Also you are aware the Smart Connect plan is online chat only in terms of help desk?

My Vodafone 12 month term contract for naked broadband has just ended and the price was going up by about $8p/m. A quick call to the retention team saw it drop by $10 instead! The clue here is always call the retention team when out of contract and they plan to put the monthly price up. I did and the price went down instead though I am locked into a 12 month contract for the reduced price.

Oh no, not another end of the world prediction

Yeah, Vodafone has literally a hundred competitors in the ISP space. They don't want to lose you as a customer.

I am not surprised at all, as this capitalist, profit-driven market is inherently priced by competition, supply and demand, and if some other ISP want's to pinch market share off VF the obvious way is to undercut them.

But... if we had a statist, socialist, single provider, government owned, non competitive environment, then I would not be surprised if we were still paying through the nose for dial-up modems and having to wait six weeks to get one installed!

I don't really understand the smart connect plans tbh.

You pay less, to have online chat support as a first response, If you have no service they will still take a call.

So... a customer could switch to smart connect and still call and simply say, well since the service isn't working i can't use the chat service.

The bit that truely baffles me though, is if you are on the more expensive non smart connect plan, they will not take a chat conversation with you and force a call.

Maybe i look at it with a more spark orientated mindset, but Just doesn't seem customer concentric?

But that never happened with, say, food in the USSR, or even telephone lines in NZ back when the glorious State Post Office was running the show. So stop your extremist capitalist scaremongering!

MikeHales: You guys ...

Be careful what you say, @MikeHales - someone could denounce you to the central committee. People have been known to *disappear* for saying the most harmless sounding things.
