Hey guys, so I recently upgraded my broadband speed from Vodafone fibre 200/20 to fibre Max. Speedtest shows I'm getting 930mbps down and 472 up, However my download speed on steam and origin has decreased. When I was on my 200mbps down fibre plan, my steam download speed would stay at a constant 24MB/s. Now on Fibre Max steam and origin reaches a peak download speed of 8.5MB/s. I have checked all my steam and origin settings but nothing seems to work. And my steam folder is set to download to my SSD.

edit - I am currently using Vodafone's new ultra hub router .

Thanks for your help :)

Turns out it was the new ultra hub router. I plugged in my old hg659 and now my download speeds are much better. However, my VOIP doesn't work on my old hg659.

Is it fibre or fibrex so is it actually fibre or is it Vodafones hybrid fibre copper? I know you have apparently solved it but I am just wondering.

The Ultra Hub supposedly has a feature called 'Secure DNS' which presumably redirects all DNS queries to Vodafone's servers even though you may have set your PC to e.g. Google Public DNS. Different DNS servers may return different server addresses for CDNs and this can affect performance.

As for VoIP I believe that is provisioned based on the serial number of the modem. You may need to contact them if you wish to use your HG659 for VoIP but I think they are quite keen to move everyone onto the newer Ultra Hub.

I just read your reply while I was on hold with vodafone when they were switching my VOIP back to my HG659. While on hold I went into the advanced ultra hub settings and saw the feature called Secure DNS. The confusing part was that by default the "Secure DNS" setting shows up as disabled. It's just a matter of hitting the "Apply" button to save the setting. One would think that it is already disabled since the slider is in the "disabled" position by default!

Now I'm back on the HG659, but that's ok since I get that extra LAN port ;)

I am on Fibre Max, not the coaxial fibrex.

edit - Thank you yitz for the solution
