Hey all,

I currently live in a blackzone (no ADSL or mobile coverage from any provider). However, I decided to make my own RBI relay station. At the top of a hill next to my house I have a modem from an RBI provider running off batteries and the long range wifi to get it to my house.

Anyway, at the house, it would be nice to have a mobile signal. And from what I can tell Vodafone Sure Signal should help me. I saw it mentioned somewhere that the modem could "loopback" on the sure signal but the RBI modem is 100m+ away and it has an external antenna so that should not be a problem.

Anyway, questions

  1. Do all three versions work with any ISP? Or would I need a version 3 unit etc...
  2. Will it work for mobile providers that "use other networks"? Namely 2degrees and possible Warehouse mobile. I presume if it works with 2degrees, then it would work with Warehouse mobile because they use 2degrees.

Thanks in advance!

1) You don't need a version 3 unit but this would be best as they are a better unit

2) Confused by question 2 sorry but Sure Signal is only for VodafoneNZ mobile connections, 2Degrees mobile connections / WHM can't attach to the Sure Signal unit for mobile coverage

Another alternative is 2degrees and wifi calling - if you already have one of these phones then you might not need to buy any more hardware. https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help-and-support/mobile/products-and-services/wifi-calling/

I use Wi-Fi calling now on my Samsung S8+ and it works well but Sure Signal has an advantage that any customer of VodafoneNZ with a 3G handset that supports 2100Mhz can attach to the Sure Signal unit

Thank you all for the fast replies!

That's a shame it does not work with other providers. I wish other providers offered alternatives!

Have you tried a different method of getting your signal down from the hilltop? two high gain antennas wired back to back as a passive booster system may work better, then you have a bit of a cellphone zone targetted at your house.
